I need help I have a 2000 Nissan Maxima SE with the bose stereo system. Ive seen the 2002 maxima with the navi system and was wondering if I can adapt the 02 navi system to fit the 00.....Has anyone done this?

It can probably be done, but I imagine it would be a LOT of work and not very practical. Especially with the changes made for the '02 models, I suspect the wiring won't be there for what you need.

You're probably better off just buying a nice aftermarket Nav system. That would probably be less expensive as well.

Yep. Due to the CAN system used in the `02+ you have to essentially swap out the entire in-dash wiring harness and affected body control modules for an `02-to-`02 swap... to an `00 since the electronics are completely different, well, you're going to be breaking a lot of new ground. :p

Serious pain. No, it does not play DVDs either.

Buy a Garmin Nuvi 360 or 660 and call it a day, much easier, faster navigation, and more up-to-date maps.

that blows i dont mind to take on the challenge I have done it before when my head was in the clouds. I had a HONDA (yup a Honda dont ask ) I had a 97 coupe and swaped the stock radio for a type R navigation from a 2000. But of the GPS from the 02 maxima doesnt play DVDs then I dont think its worth the trouble..

THanks guys this forum is really helpful.

Your best bet would be to get an in-dash dvd player with the flip up screen. (If you wanted to go stock Infiniti Navigation, a single din in-dash DVD player with its own flip up screen is also possible. (I've heard that they don't make an installation kit speciffically for Infiniti's, but a Maxima kit will work for that if you decide to go that route)

Note: some in-dash dvd players also have a navigation add-on you can get. Im not sure who had it, but one guy on here had a double din DVD player with a 7inch screen. I think it was a Pioneer, but he said there was a seperate accessory that allowed him to still use his steering wheel controls.

maixima kits do not work in I30s 00+ the maxima dash is a little bit thinner then the I30s i had to make a custom kit using a maxima kit if you decide to go aftermarket get an alpine or pioneer touchscreen display the motorized screens are sweet look into those some can even be hooked up to navi
