im planning to put 20's on 01 i30 but the tire shop said that i should go with 18's because the tire lifespan of it is one 1 1/2 yrs and the ride wouldn't be that smooth because on the low profile tires and a bumby ride. i commute this car everyday to work and around.... any tips on what's right and true ?? what i should i go with, i want my tires to last and have a smooth ride on the 01 i30 and worth the money....thanks

As far as longevity, that's entirely dependent on the tire itself. 20'' vs 18'' means very little compared to the other aspects of the tire.

Ride quality will definitely be better with 18'' than with 20'' tires. Tire sidewalls help suspension absorb bumps. Since 20'' tires will have to have less sidewall than 18'' tires, there's less shock absorbtion through the tires. You'll feel the road more through the 20''s. For better and for worse.

Definitely don't let tread life alone scare you away from 20'' tires if they're what you really want to go with, though. A high quality 20'' tire will last as long as a high quality 18'' tire.

your tire shop doesn't know what they are talking about. Have fun buying 20" lo-pro tires though.

they will fit fine and last just like normal. Tires will be expensive though, try buying 19's

Mother of god, were they gold plated? I have 245/30 R19's and they were only 160 a piece.

They are Kuhmos (sp?) The ratings on tire rack were good enough for me.
