get a DPDT momentary switch, and it will go inline with the wires going to the ignition switch on the car.

there are 5 wires to the ignition switch:white : power from fuse boxblue : activates accessory relaysblack-red : activates the ignition relay, abs, shift lock control unit, and some other thingsblack-white : activates the interlock relay, which powers the starter motorblack-yellow : ECCS pin #34

have the blue wire on the normaly closed terminal on the switch, and black-white and black-yellow normaly open.

turn the key to the on position and hold the switch.

We are installign the "rice button" in my friends dsm this weekend. His ignition is F^ so I said sarcastic why don't we put the start button on your car.Now that's all he wants.Going to have a toggle switch hide to allow the start button to work because going to leave key in ignition.

that's can't be too safe, go to junk yard to get a new ignition and have a lock smith make a key for it

or you can rekey the ignition yourself (providing that you have the little pieces), that I don't know how to do but it's been done

Well, I build ignitions for a living and I can tell you, #1 you can really rekey it yourself. You can, but without the proper keys (and they are almost all different) good luck. Secondly the ignition sends a signal out when it gets past a certain point to start the car. If you wired around that then anybody can "start" his car at any time without the key just by pushing that button.

Seriously, go get a new ignition and have it rekeyed by a professional. Then you can worry about the most useless mod anyone has ever done. I mean seriously, it is actually more work to wire up the button and then push it then to just turn the key you are already holding 1 more 1/4 of an inch.

very good wiring descriptions guys. can i get some opinions now?......i have white/red, blue, black/green, black/white, black/yellow wires that go to my ignition thing. which wires go where. anybody can get in my car and steal it if it's inlocked. the car is gps'd so if it's stolen i'll find the car. my car doen't run untill i get my ignition switch stuff done. so if i can get an answer it would be great. So if any body knows how to wire a sart button i would be greatful to get that information.

This dude at radioshack really helped me out when I was doing my Maximas push button. I got a DTPT(Double throw, double position) switch from there for a couple cents. Then he drew this diagram showing me that I need to put the Acc on one side and the Acc and Ign on the other. The middle was ground I think. Then I just ran a hardwire from the battery to a momentary on my dash and back to the starter. The two circuits are independant and work perfectly well. Sometimes I forget or dumb people that drive my car forget and hit the starter without doing the ignition switch. The engine certainly turns over but the none of the other stuff is on to support running the engine. Just play around with the wires. You'll be able to figure out which are ignition and acc pretty easily. Then run a hardline to the starter.
