Hey guys, I need some help identifying an LED on a circuit. It's the 3 LEDs that are around the black button in the middle. The LED located in the little tunnel on the bottom is a SMD/SMT PLCC2, if that helps for reference. This is a circuit board out of my car. If this isn't enough information (i.e. size), please let me know.

Thanks in advance for any help!

I know this thread is a couple weeks dead, but I might be able to help. What specifically would you like to know about the LED?

Based on the PLCC2 comment it looks like you are looking for package size. Without measuring, those leds are probably either 0805s or 0603s, meaning a body size of (0.08" x 0.06").

The safe bet would be to grab the smaller of the packages, as its easier to stick a small component on a large pad rather than the other way around.

Last i remember Surman asked everybody to stop sending him emails and asking for how-to's and other details on this as he invested lots of time and $$$ on this and not gonna give detailed info out.

I'd be more then willing to pay Surman to do this mod for me but my budget isn't even close to what i'd need to pay him.

That said - do we know exactly what bulbs needed for push button, cluster, door buttons........ ?

Just want to clarify, bulbs = leds? I'm not aware of a posting detailing exactly which LEDs you need for which application, but what we'd need to do is figure out which size/package type LED you need for each location. From there its easy to find the replacement in the color you want. If you really felt compelled, you could then adjust the series resistor to tweak the brightness, but for the most part I don't think you'd notice.

If you promise to tear stuff apart and help figure out what size LEDs you need, I'd be willing to send you a few sample components to help determine just what size it is.

Send me a PM with a mailing address if you want to help - otherwise its just a matter of waiting until (if?) I decide to get in there and make the changes (though to be honest, I kind of like the orange look ).

Guys all i can say is that if surman posted a video of whats entailed in resoldering these lights into place... that you would pee yourself and not attempt it at home.

Remember, all your info is stored in the dash cluster (speedo has the mileage) and if you ruin or damage yours, it will cost a bundle to get it reset.

We are talking about a light the size of a grain of rice, with 4 contact points under it...

WE WANT VIDEO! Haha... I'm just interested in seeing the process of this. If it's what I think it is, it shouldn't be too hard for me if I ever want to give it a shot
