I've done lots of searching and can't find anything, and I know I've seen threads about it before. I think Yokota and E7-S14 have mentioned it before.
My igntion lock cylinder was not turning my starter switch all the way. I'd put the key in and I could turn the acc. and car on, but not start it unless I pushed really hard on the key and wiggled it around. Rather than buy a new igntion lock thing I decided to just put in a push button for the starter.
I probed the back of the starter switch with a screwdriver till I found the two wires for the starter, cut them and put them on a button. Well, it turned the starter, but I could not turn the car on. So I looked on the car side of the starter switch and consulted the FSM wiring diagram and found out one of the wires was not the right one. Fixed it up and now I could turn the car on but not start it. Then I realized it takes three wires to run the starter (all three that I have now cut). Apparently things have to be connected in the starter switch or something. So, I took the 3rd wire and in the middle of it ran a wire over to the switch so that when I start the car all three wires are connected. Viola, the car turns on and starts.
However, the timings off, it's missing and backfiring like crazy. I cut the third wire that I spliced over to the push button and BAM, car instantly smooths out.
So, how do I do this with just one button? I could theoretically do it with a button and a toggle (that connects the 3rd wire and then after the car has started disconnects it)....but that's uh, ghetto.
Any ideas NICO? In exchange for your help, me love you long time. <3
