First off, I know that there are a lot of threads on this topic, and I have a years of or residential electrician apprenticeship background. Yet, this still doesn't make sense to me. This diagram:

http://i41.photobucket.com/alb...1.jpg

confuses me. I've never worked with relays and I haven't had the time to figure out how they work so bear with me please. From what it looks like, I need to strip the black/white wire and connect it to the relay at two different contacts. A third contact goes to the push button. The fourth contact goes to black/yellow and black/green, which are spliced together. The second contact on the starter button simply goes to ground.

Is what I'm seeing the correct way to do it?

And, if someone could simply describe how a relay works and how I'd hook it up, that'd be appreciated.

Thanks NICO

Go here. http://www.installdr.com

Look under general information.

It'll explain all you need to know about relays but putting in a push button start switch isn't as simple as it seems if you want to do it the correct way. You know....like wiring it to turn off all the Accessories and the A.C. when the starter is engaged to minimize the load... having the button only function when the clutch is mashed for a MT or when in park for an AT. Just something to think about.

Thanks, that site kind of cleared some things up. I was reading another install and that diagram is what I figured would shut off the accessories momentarily, but I'm not sure. This is still all really confusing to me.

I just used a 60 Amp switch I got from advanced auto and didn't use a relay.

And which wires did you use? I'd like the relay so I don't have to worry about the load from the accessories.

that Relay is the BEST way to set up a push button start it does it so that all accesories are shut off when the key is turned

Wow that first schematic sucks..... the coil went no where, kinda hard to make a relay pull i if one side is not grounded.

reminds me I need to get my starter kill keypad in at some point.

but for the push start, you think you could just take the wire going to the "start" position off the ignition on the column and wire that to a switch? Like put the key in, turn it to "on", then press the start button, activating the start circuit on the column, basically as if you turned the key?

I don't think it matters that the key is still sitting in the "on" position instead of "start" since when you already have the car running then accidentally hit the key to start again. It doesn't kick off the accessories right?

and by that, it tells me that when the key hits "start" that circuit is what tells the accessories to shut off (if its not already running) and allow the car to start.

please throw me a STFU if I'm wrong, I might go try it tonight

This is how I have mine wired using a switch from an S2000. I know its for an S14 but the idea is still the same. I used two 40amp SPDT relays. This way the key still has to be used to gain access to the "On" position. The push button takes the place of the start position on the ignition switch. When the button is pushed it cuts power to the accessories and AC and starts the car. And it only works when the clutch pedal is pressed. I've had mine wired like this for over a year and its worked fine.

I just don't understand the point of having a push start button if you still have to use to key. Makes no sense whatsoever. Now if it could somehow be setup to use just a remote and push button with no key involved like the g37, that would be worth doing.

Hahaha, no man not like that haha. I get what you're saying, but of course there would be more security involved :DI read something once about how the car will not start until the remote is within 2 feet or so of a magnetic relay type thing. I know relays have magnets in them, but I mean this is a magnetic activated relay. I guess the remote has a magnet in it and the relay closes when the remote is within proximity?Anyway, the point is I think it would be worth it if you could have max security with a keyless startup. Nawmean???

That diagram still isn't too helpful. I think I'm just going to cut all of the wires and put switches to every single one.

Come on man. Its not rocket science. Get a wiring schematic for your car and study it till you understand it. You can download the FSM on here for free.

I have the FSM, and it confuses me even more. I figure the pin one, the white/red wire, is the power. Pin two, blue, turns on accessories. Pin three, black/white, is the fuel pump and ecu. Then pins four and five go to starter and ignition. Since I'm not familiar with relays, I have no clue how to tie one in, or what it'll even really do in that diagram.
