How to wire a push button start

After looking all over the web for a simple how to on this, and finding nothing that was broken down real simple like I decided I'd write a real simple like how to on this one.

Look at the back of your ignition switch there should be 4 wire coming out the back. You will need to cut one of the wires and splice into another one of the 4.

1- Cut the black wire with the yellow tracer2- Run the wire to one of the terminals on your starter button3- Splice into the White wire with the black tracer4- Run the spliced wire to the other side of your starter button

It's that simple, now you will have to turn the key like you would start the car then push your hidden START BUTTON

Replace my Lighter for the Push Button Switch. You just have to drill the hole open a little with a step down bit.

Theres the cool factor, but if people dont know about it, its one step harder to steal your car. I agree it would be better off hidden, but like stated b4, if people dont expect it, it can be extra safety.

If someone is going to steal your car they most likely will see the spliced ignition wires when they are hot wiring it...This would be cool if it worked like a factory push to start button where you don't have to hold the key ignition down.

If there was a way just to flip the car to the on position, then push I'd definatly do it It would be a nice feature to have it hidden. Good idea.

If you have to turn the key to the crank position and push the button, then you just added an extra step and inconvienence to starting the car.

If it were properly wired it should only need the key in the run position to be able to use the button.

I wired a start button on one of my older cars because the previous owner already ripped out the stock ignition and had a universal ign switch. Unfortunately they kept failing in the "crank" position. So after a couple of cheapy switches failed I switched to a 3 position switch and a starter button. I also mounted the starter button inside the housing of the stock ign switch. It wasn't hidden, but it was a race car that was kept in my garage anyway.

if your going with the cool factor then I guess...but seems like a waste of a mod if you have to turn the key and then the push start it...

Nice button and idea, but imo you wired it wrong. All push button cars I've ever driven only make you turn the key to the on position then press start. If you can't wire it like that for an s chassis ignition Idk if its worth installing...

I had one in my old car because my ignition switch was bad. I did not need to hold the key down, it just had to be on to run. But if you pushed the button, it would crank regardless of where the key or clutch was positioned.

I work at a nissan dealership and im currently scheming on trying to get the push button start from an altima to work...

IE: Intellegent Key, BCM, locking mechanism inside the steering coloumn, and push button starter.

if you've never been in a newer altima, the key is in your pocket and you put your foot on the brake and press the start button and it unlocks the steering wheel and starts the car.

and note to all.... i had a remote starter switch in both my camaros....

you dont NEED to hold the key to crank.. but there are alot of things that are not hot in crank and are hot in run. He's just being safe. you can start the car without it being held to crank if you bypass the ign cylinder but all the items like the radio and such stay powered on when your cranking...

ive never had an issue with that but you never know
