Window tint?

If that's waht you're referring to, I've always seen that on cars that used "cheap" self tint kits. Or went with the $99 whole car deal and now after a year or so in the good "Deep South Sun" it's faded/turned purple.

I work in optics and we use a tint bathe for lenses the grey turns purple-ish as it ages or gets contaminated.

Here's how to remove the faded purple nastiness: 1) grab a black garbage bag. 2)soak the window on the outside with soapy water. 3)lay the bag over the window (one layer) and let sit in the HOT sun, keep it wet. This will loosen the adhesive and you can peel off the tint from the inside and then use adhesive remover to clean up all the sticky stuff. This saves the defroster lines from being ruined by a razor blade. Let me know if this doesn't work or has been posted. Justin

i thought that the purple color was caused by the amonia in the glass cleaner.

justinM thanks for the tip. my girlfriend's car has that problem.

No actually I used to see a lot of this, working at an accessory store, I took tint off and redid it everyday. The ammonia in the cleaner is one of the things that makes it bubble up and foggy. No matter what kind of tint it is, it will fade to a purple, just depends how long. And to remove the tint, just get some stainless steel razor blades, peel back the tint and pull, then wet down the window and razor blade all of the adhesive off, this is the quickest and easiest way to do side windows, oh and stainless steel will not scratch glass, so as long as it is a new blade, don't have any worries about scratching the glass. But yes, you can't scrape over the defrost lines, it will mess em up, just pull it off like you did the sides, get a scrub pad, put some goof off on it, and go to town! :ylsuper

I prefer just a nice smoke tint...even too black looks bad to me. But I hate having no tint at all. What's fun to do is when you race someone on the freeway, they cant see you right...so you just mess with them. first, they will drop it down next to you or wait for you to, but i just tap the brakes and then floor it in 5th to make it look like i dropped it down. They think their car is all fast for a bit, then you roll the window down (thank you power window one click thing) look over, smile, then drop it to 4th or 3rd and make a complete fool of them...well, it amuses me for some reason.
