I took my new to me old to the world 92' Q in for a check at the dealership to order a new seatbelt (these are surprisingly easy to get from infinit under their lifetime warranty) and asked Peninsula Inifiniti to run the VIN to see what work had been and what had not been done. Nothing comes up, the said they are purging old ones out of the system.

Why would they do this?? Any way to recover them????

I can't imagine why they'd purge them, but I guess server space is still expensive... I'd be interested to know if they have hard copies anywhere. My service records are split between two sets for Q2... somewhere down the line someone screwed up and put in the VIN as 1NK rather than JNK...

Interesting. Not an Infiniti, but Toyota has purged the records on my 93 tercel. Real PITA. So now I don't know what maintenance has been done, as I'm sure you can now understand BadQ45.

The entire service history for my car is probably no more than 60kB. Server space *better not* be the reason for the purge, at a time when hard drives are at an all time price low. You can get good hard drives brand new for less than $1/GB!If you own an older Q and don't yet have a print-out of the service history, I'd run down to the nearest dealership right now for a copy. Good to know if and when long-life things have been replaced, like fuel pumps, injectors, alternators, etc.

$1 per GB, you mean Megabyt?

No, I mean gigabyte. You can get a Maxtor 80GB hard drive for less than $70 from Office Depot. 7200 RPM with a 8MB cache. Sure, that's with a rebate, but even at retail, it's about $1.25/GB. (If you're interested, get it by today, 2/1/03--end of rebate period). Prices will continue to drop for as long the economy remains weak.

I took our Q into Infiniti of Marin last week for a new injector. Jeff the service manager said our recordes had been archived. He gave me an 800# and told me there would be a menu to get me to a place to order the records. I haven't had time to try it, but here is the # 800 662 6200. I didn't ask any pointed questions when I was in, and didn't even see inside the shop, but the work seems good, and the car had a fresh wash when I picked it up. Overall seems like a good place for service. Also had a Figoni bodied Talbot and a Mercedes 500K (I think) on the showroom floor, well worth seeing! Alan

Thanks alan, I will certainly give that a try! The guy at the dealership told me this is happening more and more with the early Q's and J's he services. Said Infiniti is taking the records off their servers for whatever reason he didn't know.

Kind of a function of activity, see the dealers every 90 days [oil change added to database].

I do that with my 97, they do a nice oil change job, don't charge too much (although Peninsula Infiniti went up up to $48) and they do a nice wash, which in the over-priced Bay Area costs in excess of $12 by itself.
