Purchasing new engine

Hey guys, my engine is basically f*cked, I'm being told its going to be about 3 to 4k to get a new engine in my qx4. I don't have that kind of money. Someone please help me out, with finding something cheaper, maybe you know of a site or someplace thatsells cheap low miles engines, or an autoshop that is reliable and cheap. Thank you for your help and assistance.

I think a junk yard motor would be a good bet, off a low-mileage PF/QX4 that got rear-ended.

DIY is possible. Years ago I pulled the motors from my '70 Datsun pickup, '72 240'Z and my late
wife's '68 Firebird 400 convertible. All three got rebuilt.

It would be helpful if you told us where you are.

What happened to your engine? Did a power valve screw get ingested?

Yeah, so I thought that was it, cuz it sounded a lot like a decree bouncing inside, but I had it taken in after a month of saving up enough money to get a repair, the guy says "its a f*** engine anyways" and so he puts it on the dyno and runs it to recline, it misfires, and then he said sounded like something got sucked through. Engine runs and idle totally fine. I end up paying him 140$ just to rev my engine... He says it was most likely some carbon or gunk stuck on the vavle.... Put hey, saved me a lot of money, and I live in northern California, Sonoma county
