Purchasing a 2000 QX4

Hey. New member here and wanted to get some insight on a purchase I have been offered. I'm in need of a 2nd car. I do not know much about Infiniti's but love working on cars. I have a friend that offered me a QX4 for $200. Its a good price but it does need a little work. I'm not sure how much I will have to put into it so I wanted to see if you guys thought it would be a good deal and doable. He said it runs fine but has...part of the muffler is broke (still passses NC inspection), brakes need to be replaced (rotors and shoes), clock does not work, and the directional compass does not work either. He said the CD player is hit and miss as far as working. He said it runs fine but other issues could come up since it is a 2000. I'm find putting some money into it if it's only for $200. Is it a good deal and easy fixes? Thanks for the info. If I buy, which I probably will, I will rely on this board a good bit. Thanks!

I'd say $200 is a steal if it runs and shifts good, and if 4x4 transfer case works... the stuff you listed is really minor

If it runs and drives and can be registered in your state I don't know how you'd get any better deal than that. If it were a 2000 German car like a BMW or Audi I'd say be wary because the parts cost alone will eat you alive in no time. But, it's a Nissan and parts are relatively inexpensive and they're well made. Even if you had to spend $2-3,000 in parts/repairs to take care of the current fix it list it would still be worth it I think.

Ill buy it. Ive been looking for another 2000 QX4 and I cannot find one that hasn't already been destroyed.

I decided to buy it and picked it up yesterday. I'm looking to start upgrading things after the new year gets started. Only things I've noticed are clock does not work, compass up top does not work, keyless entry does not work, and the brakes will need to be done eventually. Runs and drives good I think. Interior looks really good which was surprising. At the start of year my wife and I were going to start looking at jeeps. I really like the offroad look more than I like going offroading haha. This worked out great and was a steal. Def going to be posting needing help on some of the fixes.
