Sometimes when I try to cold start the engine the only way it will fire up is if I pump the accelerator rapidly. Otherwise it will just keep cranking. Fuel pressure is good (disconected line from rail and fuel flows strong) and i replaced the plugs. does anyone else have this problem or know the fix?

You're running a bit rich. You may want to check for either a super high fuel pressure, or check to see if any of your injectors are leaking. If those check out, double check to make sure the connection for your head temp sender is in good condition. A lot of times the plug will get corrosion on it, and the computer will start dumping fuel.

My friend and I had a feeling that might have been the problem. I purchased the car recently and it has a apexi safcII on it that was supposedly tuned. The car smells like fuel when it does start up, blows flames between shifts at night time and leaves blackness on the bumper after a tank or two of gas. When it finally does start up it lets out abunch of black smoke. I was just concerned B/c i read somewhere about bad IAA valves having the same symptom with holding the throttle down to start.

Take the SAFC off. There junk. They convert the MAF voltage to change the AFR but in turn your also changing the timing map since that is based off the MAF voltage as well. Also check your base timing.
