"Punch Outs" on A/C near rear wheels?

I did a quick search and it didn't return anything, granted I wouldn't even know what to call these things, so apologies if this is a repost.

I didn't think to bring my camera to work today or I would have pictures.

I noticed them a few days after getting the car, there's some raised rombus shaped things near the rear wheels on my 3.5 (Both sides), the best I can describe them is "raised punchouts". They seem to serve no obvious purpose, and there isn't anything special when I looked under the car and in the wheel area.

There's something similar in the bumper, except it's flush with it and has a slot to stick a key/screwdriver in that would remove the little panel. That one looks like it actually has a purpose, although I haven't played with it to see. I rather not break something.

Anyone have an idea as to what they are/why they are there? Any help is appreciated.

The front one is for a tow hook..The side ones.. if theres 2 on each side... a squareish and a rectanglish one... thats clear bra material to prevent rock chips.

Ah, didn't even consider the tow hook. Let me run outside and take a look at the ones near the rear wheels, see if maybe I can describe them better or maybe get a half decent picture on my phone. I'll repost in a few.

Yeah, looks like there's two there. Seems a bit too small of an area covered to prevent any real damage from things getting kicked up from the road. But I'm not a car engineer either so I wouldn't know.

Do they just peel off? or is there a certain way to get them off?

I can't see your pic, but those are rock guards. the front wheels kick up rocks and that's where they hit. It's just like that invisible car bra thats been discussed in previous threads.

I would really like to remove mine, but it just seems to me that they found something in R&D that made those a necessity. They wouldn't waste the money or time to install then if it wasn't needed. If anyone else takes theirs off with no ill effects, I will do as well.
