Thought I smelt oil in my trunk area a while back, & did nothing about it. I lifeted the carpet up in the trunk today, to find a failry large mess. Oil is leaking from my roof pump, & has seeped under my carpet. Good news is , I guess, I do not have to worry about rust in my trunk floor - Bad news is, I can't really tell where it is leaking. Does not appear to be coming from a split line. Resevoir is a little low, but roof still goes up & down quickly.I bought the car used, & it looks like some browny/orangey silicone has been used to seal the resevoir to the pump housing . Is this stock, or has it been repaired??

Second question: If it is a seal/o-ring at the pump, are these hardware store replacements, or a special nissan thing. (Pump looks the same as a chevy convertible pump???)

Finally, what works best to clean the oil up from my carpet/trunk area.

It appears I have found the problem. The shutoff valve on top of the pump, used to put the system into manual mode was slowly seeping. Replaced the valve & tested OK.

The oil on my trunk carpet is still a little mess, but at least I stopped the bleeding.

Word of warning, those fittings are very sensitive - Do not over tighten.

Good info wait4sno.

Nice work finding that leak. Sorry to hear that your carpet is a mess now.

Oil level goes that high? I'm having hard time visualizing this problem cuz the valve is on top of the pump and you are not supposed to fill the oil all the way up, so there's some spce between oil and the valve. I'll look at the pump on my car tonight.

The orifice where the shutoff sits, is pressurized as part of the system.

Oops! Sorry. I just checked mine, and I got confused. What I meant was seal for oil fill hole. Yeah, I can see that shut off/by pass valve is part of pressurized system. Where did you get the valve from? Did you get it from dealership or harware store? Please let us know. It'll help other members a lot.

Got a replacement shut off from a local store that sell hydraulic hoses, & fittings. Had them in stock.

Hey is that picture a spare pump???Mine has a "silocone"sealant around the inside flange on the resivoir tank.I see you have a sealant on the fittings, but none on the tank. Proof that someone has messed with mine before!!!!ThanksAnthony

No, I cut the lines and took it out of my car to take a picture. j/k

Yeah, it's my spare pump. I pulled it out from junkyard a long time ago. Seems like no one has messed with it cuz I don't see any marks on the nuts and orange/pink sealant looks clean on the fittings. All the relays and electrical stuff attached to the lines too.
