I was wondering if a CA from a Pulsar would fit in a 240, I have finally decided to go CA. If I get one imported it might not be a good motor, so instead of buying an imported motor and rebuilding it why not get one from the salvage yard and rebuild that with a rebuild kit, new turbo and rebuild the transmission from my KA. What do yous guys think about it?

Well, the Pulsar motor is gonna be FWD to begin with... but I guess you know that. Also, you will have to get one out of the Pulsar SE (CA16DE in 87, CA18DE in 88/89), not the XE (which had either the E16i or GA16i motor). It would fit in a 240 if you converted to RWD. You need to get a transmission that will match up and the accompanying flywheel/clutch/starter. You would also need to swap out the thermostat housing and do some fun custom-ish stuff with the coolant system. Also, you would need the RWD motor mounts and will probably want to use a RWD CA intake manifold (or you could keep the FWD over-the-valve-covers one... your call). You would then have to turbo it since they aren't turbo stock. This means adding the water/oil lines for the turbo. Then you come to the ECU. Oh what joy! You can either use the Pulsar ECU, use a CA18DET ECU, or a standalone... again, your call.

The Pulsar also has the belt driven bits swapped around some... the S13 CA18DET has the alterntor on on the intake side and the PS and AC pumps on the exhaust side. The KN13 (Pulsar) CA16/18DE has the PS pump on the intake side and the alternator and AC pump on the exhaust side. This isn't really that important... just pointing it out.

While it's not like the SR where FWD and RWD can't be switched around, it still seems like a lot of work if you don't already have the required RWD CA parts. Going from RWD to FWD was easy enough for me since I already had all the FWD bits I needed and could just bolt them right up...

Your call bro... just my 2c

That's what I would do, but I'd plan on more like $4K. It's prob not gonna have any of the electronics you need and engine rebuilding is going to run you more than you think.
