Has anyone pulled the steering wheel on a J30 before? How do I get the air bag off without it exploding in my face? Will a maxima steering wheel hub adapter allow me to install an aftermarket wheel? What year maxima? Are there any step by step instruction for the removal of the steering wheel around?

Thanks

You have to disarm a primary and secondary SRS system to uninstall the airbag.

Dont know baout the other stuff.

I really wouldn't play with the airbag, the chances of it going off are great for a novice.

As long as the system is disarmed he has nothing to worry about.

How are they related? ABS and airbag? Whouldn't disconnecting the battery disarm the airbag?

My fault, corrected it to SRS.

Most systems have back up power in case the power gets cut during a collision.

There should be a procedure in the manual.

As for the airbag, according to the FSM, you need to disconnect the ground cable on the battery and wait for ten minutes.

I agree..I have put steering wheels on other columns in the past but they didn't have an airbag. Once I get the airbag off, I will know what to do!

Anybody know what hub adapter I should get?

I assume the ones for the 300ZX are the same.

I believe there are two bolts holding the air bags on the steering wheel, one on each side behind the steering wheel, then unplug the bag then out it goes.

iIf you want to be 100% sure, get one for a 92-94 Maxima SE, cause they are identical to ours.

Also, are you sure you are willing to have a nice looking aftermarket wheel w/no airbag but not a alright looking stock steering wheel with a life saving airbag?

Thanks for the info...and yes I am sure I would rather have the aftermarket wheel that is perfect for the car than the one with the airbag...My cruise control doesn't work so I am not going to miss it either.
