I was at church on Sunday, and when I left, the truck (1996 hardbody, 2.4L, manual transmission, 2wd, XE King Cab) wouldn't start. When I turned the key over, the radio and all that would work, but the starter just clicked. We bump-started the thing and I drove home without any problems.

I got it up on the ramps and pulled the starter and positive battery cable (that one was corroded, and I figured it might be the source of my problem). I had the starter tested and it was fine. I replaced the battery cable and got everything back on. This was when the wierdness happened.

All the stuff that runs off the battery (lights, dome light, horn, etc) is fine. But there is absolutely no power to my ignition switch. The radio, blower, wipers, ignition...nothing works. It doesn't even try to work. If not for the headlights working, I'd think the battery was dead.

Aside from the thing not starting, it was all fine before hand.

Any thoughts?

check your fuses first , but especially check the 2 plugs that hook into the positive battery cable, make sure they are connected firmly.

Turns out the problem was a reversed wiring harness with fusable links near the battery. I took the thing to a mechanic. After an hour and a half of checking schematics and tracing wires, he noticed that one of them was backwards or something. That's normally impossible, but for some reason this one fitting would go in that way.

Go figure
