Ok, maybe I am doing something wrong, but my ecu doesn't seem to want to be cooperative. I turn the key on to accessory position. Crank the car for more then 2 seconds. At this point the LEDs are flashing very randomly in no particular pattern, sometimes pausing then starting up again no more then a second later. So I turn the ECU dial to diagnostic mode, expecting the LED's to blink in a normal fashion so I can count to 3 and turn it back, but the blinking pattern does not alter at all once i turn the dial, sometimes both lights will blink at the same time. Othertimes blink on and off independantly very rapidly. Nothing that seems to be a cohesive attempt at counting up the diagnostic sequences. So I try anyways, I count three blinks on the red LED (which is difficult because sometimes its pulses are very quick) and turn it back. It doesn't seem to make a difference and continues blinking at it's random sequences. ARG.... what am I doing wrong?

ok, make sure the screw is all the way counter clockwise. now turn on the car start the car ! then goto Ecu turn clock wise, now it will beep in a beep beep, beep beep beep , beep beep beep beep, and so on, fasion. let it beep three times then go counter clock wise , then it will blink the codes

yeah.... mine doesn't do that. The LED pulses are uneven and randomly distributed regardless of where the diagnostic dial is. Counting the number of blinks is near impossible because sometimes the lights blink so rapidly you can't distinguish if it was one or two blinks, not to mention the fact that both red and green LED are doing this independantly of eachother. Sometimes they blink in unison, other times alternating.
