so, i've made a list of what i need to disassemble the head and rebuild it. Can i assume all the CA18DE parts on the head are the same? that means, can i rebuild a CA18DE head, Port and Polish it and put it on a DET?

Use the water pump off of an 86 200sx. I'm actually not sure which year it is, but it came with a ca18et and was rwd . Infact you might just wanna get a electric fan and be done with mech one all together. I'm sure there are plenty of ppl still using the mechanical one though.

get the 86' 200sx turbo H2o pump. I did and it is IDENTICAL to the one I have. The difference is that the cutout for the center of the pully is different, and if you use the DE pump and a clutch fan it wears out the bearings and you'll be replacing that pump in about 6 months or less. Or as suggested, just get electrics..

thanks guys. i read that about the pulsar pumps after i had already bought one, and it was on back order, so i was forced to keep it or pay 25% restocking fee.

i'm thinking an electric fan and a new rad would be a good idea anyway.

so the DE cams are different than the DET cams. will i see a difference in power? at the very least i don't want a loss, but will i have compression issues down the road?

Who has had a problem with the DE water pump? I couldn't tell the difference between that one and my original. They look identical, so why would the bearings wear out sooner? I'm a little suspicious someone lost a DE water pump and assumed it was from the fact that it was a DE pump.

They only had problems if the used they DE pump and the stock clutch fan. If you run it w/o any fan on it, they seem to work fine. If we ever get our old archives back, I'd look it up for you as there was a whole write up on the thing. But since that's not available, talk to Sean (NeedCAforS13) about it. He's the one that figured out the difference. I have had the DE,DET, and ET pumps all in front of me at the same time and I know for a fact that there is a difference. The ET is the one to use IMHO...

if you run a fwd pump with a rwd pulley the hole in the pulley to go over the pump neck is bigger. It caused my motor to shake pretty bad at idle and it also ate up a belt in about 2 months. I just got a fwd pulley on there about a month ago, and there is no more vibration at idle, nor is it tearing into the belt. If you want to run a pulsar water pump, get a pulsar water pump pulley... I can post pictures later, I don't have time to upload them right now (on my way to work)
