So yeah... i've got the motor mounts unbolted and everything on the engine disconnected... but before i start i'm curious if there is anything else i need to unbolt/disconnect before i yank this thing out. Am i gonna have to put the clip up on jack stands or something or can i cut the front end out and slide the motor/transmission out. Is the transmission bolted up to something? also, where do you guys recommend i should put the chains to on the engine to pull it out? This is my very first swap so please no flames. This is a huge learning experience and i've got a lot of time. Thanks in advance.

Ive never taken one out myself but maybe you should take it out through the bottom of the clip. Like jack the clip up and then drop then engine down to liek a carpet floor or a soft surface just incase your engine jack is kinda junky with the release pressure.

just go through and make sure nothing is still connecting the engine to the chassis... like the clutch line or something like that you might have forgot! Paul and I forgot that one when pulling his KA out and ripped that flexible line, lol Have fun with it!:)

The transmission crossmember. I had to pull my motor/trans combo out of a clip while it was still on the trailer. With the downpipe still on it, Boy was it fun. Any way dont get scared if you start lifteing the clip up, Sit it down and find what you missed(unless your me and are pulling the downpipe with it). Two sets of eyes are better than one and someone who knows 240s is better. Find a KA-t freind that blows alot of motors, Thats what I did.

transmission Crossmember... what exactly about it? i'm still not sure how i'm gonna do this.

PacManVR4: did you cut the front end off the clip and slide it out or did you lift the engine/transmission out as one without cutting anything outta the way. Where did you connect the chains on the motor to pull it out? I still have the DP on so i'm guessing it would be a good idea to take that off if i can.

take off the bolts that hold the transmission crossmember to the clip... jack up the clip to get access to them, you unbolt them from the bottom. They're big bolts so get a big breaker bar, or impact wrench!:)

BE CAREFUL when cutting the clip... someone's dad cut the harness in the process  I'd just try pulling it up the top! There are hooks on the motor (exhaust: side of the head in the front, and behind the intake: on the back of the head) should work fine... you could also wrap it around the intake manifold if you need too

you dont need to cut the clip to get it out. to hoist mine out i attached chains to the intake manifold and that bracket that the intercooler hot pipe bolts to right behind the timing belt cover. when the engine/downpipe/transmission all slid out in one piece (really did slide, no effort involved) i attached a third chain to the transmission so the engine would sit upright on the engine hoist.

make sure you unbolt the transmission, then disconnect all the hoses/wires in that general area. theres a speed sensor and a few other sensors on the transmission so make sure those wires are safely off before you do any removing of the engine. good luck!

what i did was had my clip on jack stands, and i pulled the transmission off first, then disconnect all wiring, and lines to the motor, dont forget the heater hoses on the back of the engine, then jus hoist straight up, it might take a little jiggling to get the motor mounts to free themselves, i had the exhaust manifold off, and trans off, so i bolted to the exhaust manifold studs, and the intake manifold to lift it out, then i got it on a engine stand after taking the heavy *** stock flywheel off.
