Well, I defeated the aluminum spider of death, and it was not as hard as I was expecting. Took me about 2 hours and 15 minutes to get it all off, and didn't have to cut any hoses. Got a few busted knuckles, though.

I've ordered KS from Joe and expect them tomorrow. I understand the wisdom of replacing the KS harness now rather than try to save $80 only to have to pull the plenum again, but can someone explain the frailty of the harness to me? Looks to me like the KS harness and the FI harnesses are very similar (at least on the outside, maybe not in the chewy center?) and I haven't heard of any FI harness failures. Why are the KS harnesses so prone to failure and the FI harnesses are not?

It lies upon the top of the engine block and is subject to more heat and anything that is leaked or blown in on the block.

Im not really sure why it fails more than other ones... i have heard on some that the KS harness actually breaks off at the knock sensor because it gets so hot down there..... That would probably be why... its not really that the KS harness is "weaker" designed, its just put through more abuse... Still, brian is right.... Whenever you do engine cleanings, and everything like that, it has to go down there...

Still, the injector harness is not that much farther away and it hardly ever fails.
