Hey guys I just bought a 90 300zx n/a but it doesn't run. I have heard these engine are a problem to work on but I don't mind. Anyway by the looks of it someone tryed to fix the non running issue because there are butt connectors everywhere on the wiring harness. My plans is to replace the wiring harness with another one from a friend (who is parting out his 300) and to do that I am going to pull the motor. Now I have heard that there are 2 top transmission bolts that are almost impossible to get to. My question is do I take transmission out with motor or no? I know it's possible to do it but does anyone have tips or tricks on getting to those 2 upper transmission bolts? I am also looking into a z32 slinger to pick the motor up by is it better to get the 3 bolt or 2 bolt slinger? And one last question I found this connector cut off the car and sitting in the corner it looks like it's connected to the wiring harness on the front drivers side when I got the car it was unplugged. Any idea what this is? Thanks

I've never pulled the transmission first but to get to those two top transmission bolts you will need 3 feet of extensions and maybe a u-joint socket attachment.

That looks like the O2 or coil pack connector. Some people swear by pulling the engine with the transmission in. Seems like a big headache to me. It's a pain, and takes some time, but isn't impossible. For the drivers side bolt we use 3 feet of extensions>U-Joint>1 inch extension>U-joint>14mm shorter socket. I've done the passenger side with a similar setup, sometimes with 1 U-joint. You're going to need 2 people, 1 to get the socket onto the bolt, and the other at the other end ready to turn the wrench. You can also have your socket-onto-bolt-person try to assist from up top for the passengers side one. There's a few guides and stuff out there now on how to do it.

Welcome to Nico!

Instead of the long extensions, I use a 14mm ratcheting wrench, lay on my back under the car, and reach up/around the top of the transmission . You basically hug the transmission and feel with your hands. Just make sure you have the ratcheting wrench set in the correct direction ;)
