i dont really see the point. ok yeah if your going to put your ps2 in your car i could see having it smaller. but in your home?? is space really that much of an issue?? dont get me wrong its still cool and all, but my BEHEMOTH ps2 works just fine for me.

The size of the Xbox never really bothered me, since I never move it around. Like the other poster said, since I'm not trying to install it in my car I've got plenty of room.

Isn't the next gen PS coming out reasonably soon, ie. within a year?

Yeah, but it's going to have a lot of "media center" type features, right? I know that Microsoft is inevitably going to morph the Xbox into what could be the centerpiece of a home entertainment system.

PVR functions, streaming audio, buying movies and music online, browsing photos, etc.

What extra functionality will the next Playstation have to warrant the price? There's got to be something...right?

Then again, maybe not. Sony has their head so far up their own *** it's ridiculous. The quality of their consumer electronics has been steadily plummeting over the last few years, IMO. You'd be hard pressed to find anyone that's in to home theater recommend *any* Sony components, even the ES line. The debacle with their portable music player and MP3 is further proof of their complete and utter detachment from reality.

The last (literally the last one ever) Sony Discman I bought was a complete and total piece of cheap, plastic crap.

Sometimes I think you could slap the Sony logo on a box of dog crap and people would buy it.

Hopefully, Sony will deliver a kick *** product for that $500.

Well I havent had any bad luck with SONY products in my house EVER. I broke MANY discman CD players, but they all broke due to me dropping it all the time. I seriously never saw the reason for all the sony bashing.

IDK. Maybe my family is lucky.

My only first hand experience (recently) is with my Discman. It's poorly constructed with *very* poorly thought out controls. Buttons that are difficult press and are very difficult to press if it's in a backpack or jacket pocket or in poor light. It's clear that my first Discman was a much better unit (for the time, this was over 10 years ago) than the most recent one I got.

Just in general, Sony home theater products don't seem to be well received any more. Companies like Onkyo, Harman Kardon, Denon, etc. are recommended while Sony stuff, even the ES line isn't. I remember when the higher end Sony stuff was held in fairly high regard.

It seems that build quality and design have declined over the last few years. I used to like Sony products. I hope they aren't resting on their laurels and start coming out with kick *** products again soon.

this PStwo (sony isnt even calling it that, just a nickname) has a built in network adapter, external powersupply, top opening cd drive (like ps1), and doesnt support the harddrive, and may have some issues playing certain games, but it will have the same 149 price tag and will prolly be bundled with GT4! (which brings up the question does GT4 support the harddrive?!)

anyway, people keep asking about PS3 coming out next year NOT GOING TO HAPPEN GUYS!!!sony has said that ps3's format WILL BE blu-ray discs, and because of that new format, its just not going to happen next year. the format is still in final develpment stages and drives are still to expensive untill 2006

So, would you anticipate a late 2007 release for the next gen Xbox and Sony consoles?
