So I've decided that I want a PSP sometime in the next little bit. I'm trying to decide the best place to get one for the price. So far, Best Buy has them new for about $170, and I haven't checked with GameStop to see if used ones would be cheaper.

If it does seem to be significantly cheaper, what would be the cons to buying a used PSP?

They arent much cheaper. They will be at lowest $150 if the new ones are $170. I used to work at a GS, they dont lower the prices much on used gear. Shell out the extra 20 and get a new one. You wont have to worry about any scratches, big or small, and if you happen to have dead pixels you can just return it and get a new one. All used sales are as-is, so if you end up buying one with 10 dead pixels and there's nothing you can do short of buying a new display.

New ones are most likely slims and used are the phats, thats the only thing i could think of, i'd get the slim if i were you, if you can find a used slim go with that they are pretty sturdy hardware wise, havnt heard of much issues with them. Sony pretty much fixed the old ghosting problem with that the phat psp had and also speed up the drive and upped the ram.

I'd definitely step up to a new slim unless the price is hugely different. Battery life is better, the drive is quieter, and they have built in video out which is a HUGE bonus.

Unless you're looking to do homebrew, in which case I'm not informed enough to make a suggestion. I assume an older model would be better for that, though.

When I was at GS yesterday, I only saw slims available for the $170 price.

I learned long ago not to buy Sony's 1st gen of anything. The PSX was ok. Didn't have too many problems, but the 1st gen of the PS2 had so many random issues. I'm glad I held off and got a slim PS2.

I'll probably try to get a PSP sometime next week. I've already decided on just buying it out flat new. I'm not going to deal with a used system that really could have had someone mistreating the ballocks out of it.

Heh. I just checked bestbuy.com on memory stick prices. I was expecting these to be obsurdly expensive from the reviews of the PSP I was reading. I can net 2gigs for 40 bucks. And that's before I start doing some actual shopping. SanDisk 2gigs is $30 on NewEgg. Is there any difference between Duo and Pro Duo?
