So yeah we all know about emulators and what they do. Since my room is being remodeled and when it's done I'm planning on buying a PS3 + a 42inch LCD HDTV. I was looking at my old PSOne and PS2 game collection. A lot of RPG's which I loved playing as a kid. I decided I wanted to play them again, I figured since I have no tv here and only my laptop I'll get a VGA BOX and hook up my systems through that. No can do, nobody sells them anymore and I didn't feel like waiting a week or longer to get it delivered. I searched and I find that PSOne and PS2 emulation is pretty good. I grabbed some games and made ISO's from them and gave it a test run. HOLLY CRAP DOES IT LOOK GOOD!!! Is anybody doing this other than me? I'm buying up all the vintage games on Amazon.com since no game stores carry them anymore. FF7 is like 200+ for brand new. I need Star Ocean 2, Vagrant Story, Parasite EVE 1+2 all the Resident Evil games. Man I won't have a life for a long long long time.

I still have a decent PSone collection, even though I haven't owned a Playstation console for 2 years. Might have to look into that.

On a related note:Anyone remember Bleem?

LOL Sony killed that thing as fast and as best as they could. I remember only a couple of games were sold in the back then Electronics Boutique. The problem with getting into emulation is once you get a taste of it you can't wait for the next better version of the emulator to be released. And most of them aren't even being worked on anymore.

Yes the PS3 is backwards compatible but there are some issues about it. It isn't fully backward compatible. Here is a video on youtube about that issue.

I'm just going to play my PS2 games on the PS2 and the PSOne also, but when I'm on the go the laptop comes with me. On the go meaning like long arse plane flights.

Is PS2 emulation really going well? Last time I actually checked most of the emulators were still in their infancy and could play no more then a tech demo or so.

Iv'e got a couple of PS1 games on my xbox using a port of EPSXE, nothing more surreal then playing FF8 and Xenogears on the xbox.

I remember Bleem quite well. I believe they even sold a Dreamcast version of it for Grand Turismo 2. Ha.

Way back in the day I didn't even have a PS1, but my friend let me borrow FF8 and I managed to play through pretty much all of it on Bleem running on a 500Mhz PIII; it was a beautiful thing. The only thing that sucked is it ALWAYS froze when beginning the final boss fight, so I never managed to beat it. Now though, im doing it on the xbox.

they had not only a GT2 bleem, they had a MGS bleem. They were going to release a series of discs for the dreamcast, each one supporting like 100 games IIRC, but sony put a stop to that. You can actually find the bleem discs online, but the support for the games is hit and miss, some work perfectly, some not so much. You also have to have a dedicated VMU to save because it reformatts it for the psOne games.

You can even DL emu's for the DC for most of the consoles behind it.

(i was REALLY into the DC and homebrew/buring games for a while, i know a LOT)

and as far as EMU's go, i use a SNES one, GBA one, and an N64 one. I never looked into PS 1/2 Emu, and dont really worry about it, i have swap magic for playing my.......backups and imports..... yeah thats it, not illegally DL'd games......

Ha, I used to be into the whole Emu thing too. I remember being like 10 and discovering that I could actually play first GB Pokemon through an emu on my computer, and it just sorta grew from there.

Now though, all emu duties go on the Xbox. I have just about every US released SNES game on there, tons of Genesis, NeoGeo, GBA, Game Gear, N64 and even SCUMM games. Good stuff.

yeah, i was more into the dreamcast scene, there was soooooo much you could do with it! You could DL any game and just burn it to a CD and it would work, You could trick some games to still play online, There were 2 unreleased games (half-life and propeller arena) that were leaked that you could DL.

They made tons of homebrew games (the DC was a snap to program for) tons of EMU's and all sorts of apps that ran on the DC (divix, VCD player, MP3 player) And they even had homebrew web browsers! Man i love that little box!

Yup, mine is proudly displayed next to all my other last gen systems and still gets the occasional game of Marvel VS. Capcom 2 and Powerstone 2 played on it. I remember when it just came out, and the VMU was like the best thing ever. A memory card, that could play it's own minigames???? HELL YES.

Yes they have come a long way, most of the games are now playable. But you do need a pretty good system to run them well, otherwise you'll feel like they're in slo mo.
