The Microsoft conference absolutely ruled. The new Xbox 360 dashboard update is going to be absolutely insane. The new party system makes the integration of parties and taking them throughout EVERYTHING you do seamlessly is incredible. Not to mention.......... NETFLIX! Being able to watch any of the massive collection of Netflix movies ON DEMAND rocks. Also the aforementioned party system applies to Netflix as well so you can invite friends to watch movies with you over LIVE. Epic win! I don't care what anyone says about PSN being free. It's absolute crap in comparison to Xbox Live. GoW 2 looks amazing too. Not to mention RE5 and FFXIII being cross platform. If MGS4 was cross platform, there'd be no reason to own a PS3.

Yep... enjoy your Blu-ray and MGS4 player. J/K, but when are we going to see Home and Little Big Planet? Typical Sony overhype, as always.

The Netflix thing was huge, IMO.

Why would MS ditch their terrific wireless controller for an uncomfortable wireless PS1 controller?

Any links? I can find plenty of info on the Netflix partnership but nothing on the new dashboard upgrades aside from a totally useless ad video.

Serious question.......in non fanboy terms why is home so hyped up? All I can find out about it is that its some stripped down second life clone not a game, an I missing some key element here?

yeah, I'll have to admit the Netflix thing is cool.

but the MS Conference didn't "absolutely rule".. not that Sony's or Nintendo's did either hehe.

other than the stupid Mii rip-offs and the SingStar rip-off "Lips", the MS Conference was okay. Gears 2 looks great, Fable 2 looks cool..

I'm not fully informed either, but:

The "stripped down second life" part is just a bit of it.

Think of it as more of a 3D simulation variant on xbox live's social aspects. As I understand it, you'll have a place to show off your achievements (or whatever Sony calls them) and other score/e-pen15 ehancements, and there will also be places to play social games like pool.Basically, it's "second life" linked to your PSN friends list and stats.

I can see some of the appeal, but I'm definitely not a social gamer so most of that is lost on me.

Ummm yea, PSN also rolled out there own movie rental service on tuesday. 300 movies and 1200 shows, not bad for a roll out. also you will be able to watch movies with friends over home. Also, for psn movies you dont need a "gold" account.

for HOME they will have gaming areas for certain games like 'war rooms' or something. get a party together in ther and launch the game and everyone in the room will join the game.. while youre walking around there will be large tv displaying trailers and other things and you can just stop and watch. i will probably only use it for watching movies and getting together with other people for certain games. warhawk, resistance, things like that.

i absolutely cant wait for little big planet

There was an interview on IGN explaining how it worked, supposed to be some sort of hybrid of 12 and turnbased.

Video I saw said it'll be seamless active battle like 12, but done in a different way.

Little Big Planet and GoW3 are the two PS3 games that have me thinking "damn...I wish there were more good PS3 games so I could justify a PS3 for these."

80 gig ps3's are the same price as a crapbox360 now, and you even get a bluray player included! mgs4, little big planet, and GoW3 should easily be justification for owning a ps3. but hey, to each their own

hmm.. off the top of my head.. Killzone 2? Resistance 1&2? DC Universe Online (which is looking AWESOME)? InFamous? M.A.G. (which looks like Socom with 256 players)? Street Fighter 4? Gran Turismo 5? Ferrari Challenge? ..not to mention all the good games that are already on shelves, ie MGS4, Uncharted, Warhawk, Unreal 3, etc..

I know there's more, but that's MORE than enough to justify a PS3 purchase, not to mention all the other features (which I'm not gonna get into again ) especially since the 80gb is dropping to $399 in September, and the 40gb is dropping even lower..

I don't get why people still think the 360 is any better that the ps3. It's a great system don't get me wrong, (I have one btw) but Blu-ray is the future of gaming, movies, dvds. Some people don't even buy the ps3 for games, just blu-ray. Once everybody converts over the 360 will be a dinosaur system. Right now the 360 has a better game selection 9right now) because it's been out longer, but that's going to change soon. Also, Live far surpasses PSN (right now) but again probably not for long. If you look at the future of gaming, movies, or anything with a disc (soon discs will probably be extinct too) you'll see that blu-ray is the future right now and it's something that xbox doesn't offer and I doubt they ever will (sony owns blu-ray). Why would you want to buy something that you know for sure is going to be out of date in the near future? For about the same price, even though might not have the best game selection or online features (right at this moment) will surpass it in probably less than a year? How much sense does that make?

And really, is the game selection and online features provided for ps3 really that bad? I admit it isn't quite as good, but the ps3 really isn't lacking that many great games. Halo and Gow? Whatever, I think I can live without them. Gow3 on ps3 anyways.

Just my $0.2

^ werd. microsoft hastily jumped into the next gen in a mad dash to beat sony instead of taking their time. as was mentioned in the sony conference, sony aimed to release yet another 10 year system, and the fruits of their labor are starting to show. its easy to brag about a larger game selection and higher sell count when you have a year and a half head start, but as far as longevity of each system, sony is sticking it to the man

on a side note, did anybody else hear that microsoft is already working on the next xbox? i cant remember where i read this, but i havent heard anything about it since.. just makes me laugh that the 360's only been out for a few years and their already shelving it.

Killzone sucked. Resistance doesn't interest me. I HATE comic book games. Infamous looks excellent. MAG I have no idea about. Street Fighter 4 excites me about as much as being castrated. They might be IF I had the money to drop on ANOTHER multihundreddollar game system. But I don't. I'd rather get an HDTV so I can fully enjoy my 360 games first.

I don't think the 360 is better. The 360 has MORE GAMES I LIKE that are OUT NOW and not waiting, or in development, or being delayed, or whatever. Yeah, in a year or two the PS3 will probably have a nice library of games I'd like to play. So...why would I buy one now? YOU can think the PS3 isn't lacking great games all you want. I beg to differ. But I'm not attacking the PS3 or claiming the 360 is better. All I'm saying is I have other things to do with my $300+.

That old OLD argument has LONG been proven crap.Microsoft did not hastily jump in. They just jumped in first. Tell me what they wer hasty about? Tell me where that cost them? And The PS3 has been out for a year and a half now. BY FAR long enough to have "caught up with" the 360.

I don't see Sony sticking it to ANYONE, except the poor saps trying to release simultaneous multiplatform versions. And I think it's a TEENY bit early to start talking about system longevity when it's been out for a year and a half.

Also, I don't WANT another "10 year system." I haven't had a PS2 for years.

so you don't like war/sci-fi shooters.. don't like comics/superheroes.. don't like fighters.. don't like racers.. don't like online gameplay.. and don't like the ability to mod your games.

..so what DO you like?? lol. if I may ask, what do you play on 360?

well a PS3 isn't as deep as an "investment" than a 360 is in the long run, but I'm gonna have to agree with you... get an HDTV first

uhhh.. RROD? poor hardware design? failure rates through the roof? scratching discs? all could have easily been prevented had Microsoft taken their time in designing their new box properly. it's definitely costing them.. but hey, they're Microsoft.. they can afford it. and we as consumers apparently don't seem to mind going through countless return cycles for our xboxes, so Microsoft is saying "oh what the hell.. let's not fix the problems with it."

That's not what I said at all. See this is why I can't stand console debates. I say one thing, and people read something ENTIRELY different into it. Allow me to elaborate:

Killzone sucked. Because it was a crappy game. I didn't say I don't like scifi shooters. I said Killzone sucked. And it did.

No, I don't like comic book games. They're usually cash-grabs and poorly made. Plus they're generally just no fun. Superheroes (with a few key exceptions) are lame.

No, I don't not like fighters. I FARKING HATE fighters. Worst game genre ever

No, I generally don't like online gameplay. I don't like it because no one knows how to have fun anymore. You're either enduring children acting like morons, adults acting like morons, or people getting mad at you because you're not playing the way they want you to. Screw that. I can enjoy games on my own and actually RELAX, which is the whole point of games. There are exceptions to that, though. But most games I play online are PC games, where you have a lot more freedom (like not being locked to a gamertag name, moddability, etc.) such as Diablo, DII, Half Life...

But my point with Warhawk was not that I dislike online games, but that I dislike online ONLY games. I like to play around and experiment in games, even online ones. At least PC games let you do that, like spending hours hacking HLDM to get awesome settings for a great deathmatch. No can do in console games. You're stuck waiting for minimum player counts and with static pre-designed setups. No fun at all.I do enjoy a good coop game. But developers STILL haven't caught on to the fact that coop should be available in just about everything these days.

Where on earth did moddability even come up? CONSOLE gamers have no business discussing mods. I'm a PC gamer. I've got the win there. Choose a different battle.

As for your last question, what DO I like?WELL DONE shooters. Like Half Life. Or Doom 3. Or FEAR. Or System Shock 2. Or Painkiller.I like shooters that I can use a keyboard and mouse with. Like I said, I'm a PC gamer. I'm terrible with a gamepad when it comes to shooters. So console shooters are sometimes not much fun. Of course, if MS and Sony weren't morons and offered keyboard and mouse control support on their consoles WITH USB PORTS, that wouldn't be an issue for me.I like American RPGs like Diablo.I like RTS games.I like TBS games.I like GTA games.I like a lot of independent games that you'll NEVER see on consoles. Like Rigs of Rods or SoulFu. Or Darwinia, which would actually work really well on a console. Of course, consoles are making some cool strides in the indie department recently.

I like non-competitive games. I don't want to compete with people, I want to relax.

What do I play on my 360?On my shelf I have sitting:GTA4Lego Star Wars: TCSEternal SonataThe Orange BoxAssassin's CreedSaint's RowForza 2 (haven't played it in ages, though)Rock Band

None of that has anything at all to do with MS being first to the market this round. It's just bad design. Would have happened if MS had been a year LATER than the PS3, too. And you're exactly right, and prove my point: MS DOESN'T care to fix it. THAT'S why it's a problem. Not because it was first to market. You'd think after 3 (or is it 4) redesigns, the problem would be gone if it was just a matter of rushed development, wouldn't you?

ROFL at the PS3 fanboy trolling going on in this thread.

XBox 360 and PS3 are about even and are going to remain that way for the rest of the generation. If PS3 is really a "10 year system", then it's going to be like the PS2, which held many multiplatform titles back due to the lowest common denominator effect.

Go back to the IGN forums, please.
