hey guys,i need ps on my system.. its just not working for me.. no ps feels like im turning a big rock, which wont turn/steer, almost at all.

(SPARKNOTES @ BOTTOM)

i checked the ps pump, rack, and the res.. and to my conclusion,

i saw that the fluid in the res. must've gotten super hot, since the little stick attached on the cap of the res. had melted and deformed. However, the ps reservior seemed in good condition.

i checked the PS rack and i saw that the tie rod(?) boots were torn. Also found some old oil all over the ps rack.

about the ps pump, i checked it as well.. or tried.i tried to turn the clutch fan with my hand either direction and it wouldnt spin one dir. while it would the other.

my clutch fan is tattered, whoever put it on, put the fan on the wrong way and its blowing air to the driver's side fender, rather than pulling it towards the engine.

so, to summarize my post.. i need to replace my clutch fan and ps rack (since the boots are torn) as well as the ps pump cap that has a stick coming down from it.

my question is.. would i need to replace the ps pump as well?it seemed fine, but i just wanted to ask, since if i were to replace the darn rack, which seems like a lot of work, and the clutch fan, i might as well replace the ps pump too. But, if its not necessary, i dont want to add more $ to the fix.

i basically read the fsm and how-to remove/replace the ps rack and the clutch fan is pretty straight forward, but are there anything i should be aware of before?

Also, the new ps rack i'm getting has the driver's side tie rod end off (broken?).would the tie rod be salvageable from my current non-functional ps rack? and would the new rack be use-able?

i'm sorry to make this so long, but i wanted to be sure of what to do before i went and greased myself up.

thanks for the help guys, in advance!

!!!SparkNotes!!!1. Replacing PS Rack, Clutch Fan. (How to?)2. Replacing TieRod end on NEW PS RACK, Possible? Can I salvage my old TieRod End?3. Any Precautionary warnings for me to see in advance?4. PS Reservior cap dip stick is melted and deformed, Replace entire PS RES?5. Thank you guys for listening. I know its a long *** post.!!!/SparkNotes!!!

you probably won't need to replace the pump. Not much you can burn on the inside of it, but if it turns out that the plastic from the dipstick got all over the place, you may need to replace the parts that have been damaged by the presence of the plastic bits.

Tip for the tie rod ends, make sure you've got a pickle fork before diving into this job. The rack replacement's not too bad, make sure if you're gonna replace the rack and the tie rods, do that while off the car and be sure to get the new rack and rods to the approximate lengths from the old one and then go get an alignment. The ps stuff, raise the front end and turn the wheel left to right with the car on to pump the air bubbles out. Use ATF instead of ps fluid.
