Well Today on the way home My Power Steering pump finally gave up, and leaked out all my fluid. I got it home and checked it out and yep it leaks out of the pump and not the hoses so I guess its off to find a pump.

Has anyone changed the pump? Is it hard as it looks in the service manual, I wish it was just the pressure sending unit

Should I go for the new pump or buy a used one, I know its 351$ for a new one and between 300 and 75 for used.

I hope I didnt mess up anything else like the rack!!

Wish me luck and any advice would rock!

Scottsdale sells a seal kit for it for pretty cheap, if all you did was blow a seal. Might be worth looking into before buying another one.

Would a worn seal cause the moan and groan? I had very little assist when I wasnt moving, but the moment I gave it some gas I had Power Steering again. I went ahead and ordered a PS oil pressure switch.

So now heres the question do I replace the seal and will that fix all my problems or do I just buy a new/used pump?

Measure the pressure at 1,000 rpm idle per manual to find out. Moan and groan is usually from air in system.

With 158k could be rack wear damage or the solenoid valve or the steering [ecu] control module........follow the detailed test proceedures after you stop all the leaks!

OK thanks for the help!

What test should I run to test the Pressure after I replace all the seals?

Also How would on get the "air" out? is there a way to bleed it? I thought changing the fluid would do that guess I was wrong

Thanks!!!!

All fully explained in service manual. Becareful as you are dealing with 1,000 psi!
