Well, I've had my 240 for almost 2 years now. It was handed down to me by my stepmom (which I still am very thankful to this day for) and she treated the car very well and so have I (I pay my parents an extra 150 bucks a month to use the garage to store my baby )

I checked my compression on my non-rebuilt 171K mile KA today and I was astonished to find all numbers across the board over 175, so a rebuild isn't really necessary (although one is planned later ).

So while I'm waiting for my T3/T4 setup (which I purchased from Chezedik), I was wondering if anyone else is in the same boat as far as having a high mileage good compression motor? And if so, when you boosted it, how long did it last before a rebuild was needed? I'm looking forward to my advancement to forced induction on the KA! haha

So, you're gonna boost it without even so much as a head gasket change?

pssh wat are these "gaskets" you speak of?

you dont need that crap

i plan on doing gaskets all around along with the oil seals etc when i go SR.... maybe i just dont like rippin' sh*t apart multiple times

so you gonna tune it with safc as well?

lol Of course not. sorry, I forgot to mention that there will be a few gasket changes. I was talking about the internals (pistons and rods). It's just a little fun until I can scrounge up the dough for a rebuild kit. I'm not gonna push her too hard. Just something a little quicker than the stock KA.

T3/T4 is a pretty damn big turbo if I believe. All compression tells you is your motor is healthy, a healthy ~130 whp motor does not mean it's ready for a big turbo. Do a lot of research before you have at it. If it's reading 175+ on a high mileage motor, you got really lucky and have a good motor, don't blow it up by modding it too fast.

Gonna keep it low for now. Stay under 300...maybe even a little under 250. I'm gonna be using a BikiRom ECU.

Oh I know it's a nice sized turbo, but I'm keeping it at a low boost level just for now. I'm gonna be replacing seals and gaskets of course.

A buddy of mine is gonna take pics while I do everything (and he'll help out too, of course :P). I'm just waiting a couple more weeks till I get my exhaust (I ordered it from BRM).

And just save up, man. That's what I did. I saved up over 2 grand and I've been working part time because retail sucks ***. took me awhile to do it, but it's possible!

ive had my ka-t for 4 years boosting 6 to 8 psi and runs great. Bone stock engine even headgasket. Its still goin strong and I plan on getting methanol injection and up the boost to 14 pounds.

My friend with a single cam ka-t turbo'd his engine at 260,000 miles bone stock engine and ran the turbo kit for over a year seeing track events 2 times a month and driven every day to school and around town. When he took off the kit the engine still ran like the day he bought his car. Only reason he took it off cause a person bought his car without the turbo kit.

Just get a good tune and quality parts and you will be fine if your under 300 rwhp.

We have a believer! hahaha

I was just thinking about that and explaining to one of my friends that 240 headgaskets aren't like Supras (he blew his headgasket the first time he boosted; he wasn't too happy with that statement )

And my buddy has a single cam and he boosted it at 180K with no rebuild. it's at 220K to this day and still runs great.

a little over a grand, but that's with everything.

Deatschwerks 555cc injectors, Z32 MAF, manifold, Garret T3/T4 turbo, BikiROM ECU, LCM-1 Wideband O2, FMIC (with all piping and couplers), Tial wastegate, DSM BOV, Hot and cold pipes, SR downpipe, and a couple other goodies. Personally, I think it was worth it.

I figured, "Hey, why not start out with a nice setup now?" I've been getting different opinions on the turbo size, but I don't want to have a T28 now and wanting a T3/T4 later on. Plus I'll be tuning it all myself (and I'm OCD when it comes to making sure my car runs nearly perfect).

funny how some people STILL think you need to change the headgasket on a KA24DE before you boost it. stop spreading misinformation like that. to the OP, tuning is what will determine whether or not your engine will last.

i agree, with a good tune, a good ka24de such as the one you have will run great. Ive seen stock ka24de motors boosted with hp numbers pushing 400+ and the motor still runs like a champ. Trust me, if your tune is flawless, the limitations dwindle to how much power you can see out of that motor.

and hopefully one day i can join you in the ka-t club GOOD LUCK!

Funny how some people think a 18 year old 260K headgasket will hold under boost without a question. YOU stop spreading misinformation like that.

i wouldnt touch the head gasket. just run it till it pops.

at 175k a head gasket isnt going to bring it back into its A game.

OK. Well I guess the infamous overheated DOHC head problem doesn't exist for you.

i believe those of you saying the stock HG can handle the boost, but why wouldnt you just replace it anyway? i mean, you are going through the hassle of turbocharging a naturally aspirated motor. why not replace such a vital part that will most likely blow eventually anyway?

i also want to turbocharge my ka24de, but why not just do it all in one swoop? if you want to do it the right way, you are going to be removing both manifolds to go turbo anyway(taking butterflies out and installing water lines on the intake and putting the turbo manifold on the exhaust side.) it would be sensless to go through that process and not just pop off the head and replace a 15+ year old gasket.

good luck with your setup red

completely agree. People complained about not turboing the KA because it will blow up all thanks to lazy, cheap, and incompetent owners. Good luck with the project, go slow, and you will have a blast when it's all done.
