Am proud owner of 2002 GLE w/ 67,000 miles for the past 5 days. But engine light just went on and I am not auto technical. Any help with what to check first (besides gas cap) that I can do before taking in to be checked?

Thanks

Welcome to NICO.

Take it to your local Autozone or Advance Auto, they will check your codes for free.

same thing happened to me. Just bought my daughter a 2000 SE and a couple of weeks later the light came on. Went to Autozone and they pulled the codes. Was a dead coil pack. I replaced it, and they reset the light. How is your car running??? With the dead coil, mine was skipping badly as you can image.

runs fine and i just pulled the codes-is 0138 o2 sensor. what i read is that both rear sensors should be replace first. kinda costly-the dealer must of reset the ecm before i bought the car

Is your car running ok? If so, you might want to see if thecodes come back after you clear them.

I have had this happen on my 1995. I have a code readerand have cleared that and they haven't come back. I passedfine on my inspection and had pleny of room for varianceson pollution particulates, C02 etc.

Doing it this way allowed me to determine if this was just a "fluke" warning or whether the O2 sensors really need a changeout.

I think these O2 sensors have too much to contend with being inthe exhaust, under the car, etc and give a lot of false readings.

If your car is up for inspection you NEED to clear these codes beforegoing in. I recommend an Actron code reader that will clear codes too(about 60$)
