Car: 2012 Quest SV

Post

Hi All,
I joined up just after I bought a 2012 Quest SV with 61,000 miles. I've driven it 200 miles or so in the week since we got it, and have averaged 23mpg, mostly highway driving. It's a great van - quiet, composed, and economical.

First priority after buying this car, which is by far the nicest, newest vehicle I've ever owned, is to protect it. We have two 60lb+ dogs, and both shed like crazy. We had them in the back for a very brief time without anything down and there is already dog hair embedded in the carpet. To this end I ordered the Nissan brand full length cargo protector from the online parts store:

It's a bit softer and more supple than I thought it might be. For $75 I sure hope it is durable enough to resist dog claws and whatever we put back there. Accessing the under-deck storage is pretty straightforwad, and the fit is perfect. Removing dog hair should now require a once-over with a dustpan, instead of intense vacuuming. The side protection will be great for keeping messes in. The downside is that it doesn't have anything to cover the backs of the middle seats, which are currently blocked by a generic dog barrier, but already collecting fur. The black vinyl smells like, well, pvc offgassing, and the portion that was in the sun while I was installing it heated up very quickly. I hope it doesn't make the car any hotter.

Nissan(R) Full Length Cargo Cover - exact fit, but expensive for a sheet of vinyl. Does not cover 100% of our needs, but is a good start. Less expensive than Weathertech or other custom fit options.

I will continue to wrap every available surface with protective elements - hopefully before I do things like drop chocolate on the seat and sit on it ... oops, too late for that. Anyone have seat cover recommendations? First two rows only, as the third is only for occasional use.
