Hi there everyone! I'm in the market for a used car (looking to upgrade from a Focus) and I think I've settled on an Infiniti G37 or Acura TSX. My preference is for the G37 because of the V6 and 7 speed transmission. In particular, I'm looking at a certified 2010 G37X with about 37k on the clock. I'd rather save a few bucks and get a RWD but living up north they're pretty much all AWD. It also has nav which isn't a huge deal for me but since you need it to get the Bose sound system I'll live with it.

The reason I'm looking to upgrade is quality; I want a car that I can go 150k and 10 years with, no problem without having to do more than change oil, which is more than I can say for the Focus. Are there any common issues with these cars I need to worry about? Any odd ball maintenance costs aside from the normal? Car Complaints and Edmunds don't have much, which is either good or just means issues are under reported, so I thought I would ask the people who own them. Also, will I do fine running on regular aside from a slight MPG loss? What type of real world MPGs are people getting, especially highway?

Next, the car comes from New Jersey near the shore/western New York City. It was a lease and turned in earlier this year. Carfax is clean but no guarantees there. Will Infiniti certify flood cars that have been repaired, or is certification something that has more to do with the dealer?

Finally, the price. It's marked at close to $26k, but it's been on the lot about 4 months. If all is good, I want to try to work it down to about $22k. Not sure they'll be able to do it as I have some knowledge of how used cars are priced but hopefully I'll be able to get them to come down a little.

Sounds like you're doing your research, which is important! Yes, the Infiniti will be higher quality compared to the Ford, but if it has flood damage, all bets are off. Some things to check, get under the car and look at the frame. If you see pockets of dirt, corrosion, or fresh undercoating, I'd be suspicious. Another good place to look is in the trunk. Check where the spare tire is kept for dirt/leaves/sediment.

Gas. So this is a debated topic, but the general rule is that if go with a lower octane fuel, the car's computer will compensate by decreasing your HP.

Be very careful. If the vehicle was flood damaged you may not be able to insure it.

BTW I'm on my second G and have used regular 87 for eight years with no problems
