Prospective EX Owner Who Needs Help.

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

I tried to search to see if this topic was covered, in addition to Google searches, but I'm having no luck to getting good results. Hopefully someone on here can help.

I'm looking to getting an EX35 or Ex37 from 2010 - onwards, but I'm trying to figure out the major changes and features between the two apart from engine. Has the body changed at all? Have has anyone owned both and can put in their opinions?

Thanks!

The 2011 EX got the 7 speed transmission in place of the 5 speed, which was a big improvement. The EX37 got the 3.7 litre engine with more power, but most of the extra power was at the top end so it didn't make much difference in everyday driving. The 2016 got a 4 inch longer wheelbase which created a lot more rear leg room.

Other than that, there were not many important changes.

My wife has a 2010 EX35....great car !

Had 2013 EX37 and traded for a 2015 QX50....big mistake !

I believe EX37 is the fastest of all the years in this model.
It seems that I lost 50 hp and the 2015 QX50 feels it has been de tuned. I had discussions with dealer and it was admitted that they did this with tranny software to get better mileage.
The car feels sluggish at low RPM unlike the EX37

If I had to do it again the EX 37 is the winner by far.

Just my opinion.

If you like the 2010 and 5 speed, there is no real difference between the 2008/2009/2010...

I have heard many say they like the 5 speed better than the 7 speed... I love mine... haven't driven a 7 speed yet.

I bought the 2014 QX50 for resale reasons , I wnated the new name and not the old EX badge

The 5 speed a lot faster than the 7 speed because they de tuned ? Never knew this before now

Thanks for all the replies. I suppose I was leaning towards 2010 - due to the bluetooth music and phone pairing is featured from that year onwards. My 2008 Altima doesn't have the bluetooth capabilities.

Very good response on tuning differences and engine differences. I definitely would like an EX37. I hope another one appears to my liking! I guess it's the waiting game now. QX50 is out of my budget.

I bought a 2011 EX35 AWD Journey in June of '15. One of the nicest vehicles I've owned. Plenty of power, the 7 speed is very smooth... and in Sport mode very responsive. I've never driven the 5 speed so can not testify as to it being quicker... but the 297 HP '11 has plenty of get up & go. the ride is very smooth on the highway.

The only thing I've changed to date is I swapped the Halogens headlights for HID's and put LED in the Fogs ... I found the halogens to be weak on dark highways and I live in a gas lit community with plenty of deer and need the brighter headlights....

That's just one poster's personal impression, and if you go back he wasn't referring to 5 speed vs 7 speed (as logically 7 speed should be faster than 5 speed), but that in his opinion his old 2013 EX37 (also 7 speed) felt faster than his current 2015 QX50. A different poster wrote that he heard some people "like" the 5 speed more than the 7 speed (not sure what the poster meant by thatl but car went from 5 speed in 2010 and prior to 7 speed in 2011).

People's perceptions are one thing. But I will just say that objectively the 2013 EX37 has the same VQ37VHR engine as the 2014-2016 QX50 (2013 was the first year to use the new VQ37VHR engine), and the specs on horsepower, torque, 0-60 acceleration, and fuel economy are exactly the same from 2013 to 2016. So the specs certainly don't show any detuning to boost posted fuel economy figures.

I was comparing my EX37 2013 to my QX50 2015....and by de tuning was meant that the tranny and not the engine.
The difference in performance was the torque in the lower rpm. Also , I have noticed the difference in MPG, better mileage on the QX50
which confirms that the software on the tranny is set up more aggressive on the EX37.
Just my 2 cents ( Canadian ) !

Since we are explaining our posts - this was in reference to drivers that us DS mode in manual... Too much shifting is what I remember and it was a little less enjoyable driving with one hand and constantly shifting with the other... I bet if they had paddle shifters, it would have been a different story.... speaking of that and since I have removed my steering wheel a few times, I think that will be something I tackle soon.

Sorry for the thread Hijack, but perhaps other EX owners may have the same query...what brand/retailer did you select for your HID and LED upgrades? I am looking to do the same with my EX...perhaps just starting with the fog lights.

To the OP :

I have a 2008 EX35 Journey AWD 3.5L engine with 5 speed AT.

I test drove a 2013 EX37 AWD 3.7 L engine with 7 speed AT.

If I had to start over again, I will choose the 2013 AWD EX37 if you want the smoothness and performance.

I don't like the long 3rd gear on my 5speed AT.

Now that I have a Q40 AWD sedan (3,800 IBS) with the same engine and AT of the EX37 ,
I find my old EX35 AWD anemic in power. (4,000 IBS) There is no comparison on the midrange at all....

I looked up about the recalls? Should I be concerned? It sounds like it may be fixed after 6 years, one previous owner, and a clean carfax.
