Gentleman..... Need a little advice or if you know of a link that helps me with my questions that would be great. First I would like to say HELLO. As you can see this is my 1ST post.:D and I need your help/advice in getting the right 240sx. :help ...... Im searching for a 198? to 1994 240sx trunk model. Is there a better year then others when looking for one? more powerful engine, 4 wheel disk brakes, single or twin came engine, ect, ect........Im not up to date with the models of the 240sx's. What things should you look for in buying a used 240sx? Thanks for helping a maybe future 240sx owner.......

'89-90 have the SOHC engine, somewhere around 140hp'91-'94 have DOHC, 155hpthey all have 4 wheel disk brakes, vented fronts, independant front and rear suspension

when you take it for a test drive, listen for the timing chain rattle. if it's present, be prepaired to dish out the cash to get it fixed.

on the fastback, the foam rear spoiler would hold water and cause the hach to start rusting. I dunno about the coupe.

You want the trunk model, so you want the coupe. The coupe is a little harder to find than the fastback. If you have a compression tester, test the compression of the motor if you need it to last for a while(minimum is 151 and standard is 179). These motors last a long time when cared for. Like Corn said, check to see if you hear a rattle coming from the front of the valve cover. If it's loud, then you'll have to change it shortly, if it's faint, then you got a while yet. Those are the only things I can think of to check for with a used 240.

And the 1991 had the more aggresive cams out of any of the KA motors.

Thanks a million for the help.... So, I guess Im looking for a 91 coupe. Whats a est. cost to replace the timing chain?? Between the single and twin cam engines, if I were to turbo charge the 240 (In the future (Maybe) , which motor would be better, or does it matter?

Looking and Kelley Blue book on the 1991 240sx, they list a (2 door coupe) and a (SE 2 door coupe.) What would be the diffrence between the 2 models? Sorry for all the questions. I just dont want to go to a dealer or private owner blind.

Np.

BTW, SE model S13's (89-94) have moonroofs, rear sway bar, thicker front sway bar, HICAS (optional 4 wheel steering), LSD (optional), 15" alloy wheels, rear spoiler, and thats about all I can remember right now.

heh I never thought to ask those questions lol....turns out the 240 fastback I wanted is up on blocks (one wheel) and the foam is showing from the rear spoiler...like the left section is out-ish, naw I didn't get a real close-up look at it yet...is this going to be a problem? cuz there might be more and more stuff once I get in close hey?

okay this seems like the place to ask about 180's also lolwhat are the major differences between a 1989 and 1993 180SX?are the differences big enough for there to be a $3700 price difference?

can a 1989 or 1992 silvia front end be converted to S14/S15 (15 prefferably)? and how much would that cost?

I'm gonna import a car from japan seeing as it's only 1,150 but I need help in choosing which car is better to buy for upgrades etc :help

All DOHC S13's had the same cams, so you're loking for a 91-93, seeing as 94's only came auto 'vert.

There are mixed feelings on the cams in the S13's, some say they're the same, others say they aren't. Some say the 91 had 240/248, while the other years had 232/232. Maybe all S13's had the 240/248 cams while the S14's had the 232/232.

ok, the 89 180 has the CA18 and the 93 has a SR20 so does that add up to the 93 being 3700 more?they can both undergo the strawberry face conversion, so what are the advantages? heck...if I'm not satisfied I'll say screw it and get a skyline gst-t....but I wanna silvia-type car!

Panther, if you're talking about a 180SX (JDM Silvia), then yes, the 89's and 90's had the CA18DE/CA18DET, and for the 91 model year, they switched to the SR20DET.

For the 240SX (USDM "Silvia"), the 89's and 90's had the KA24E (SOHC, 12 valves), and for the 91 model year, they switched to the KA24DE (DOHC, 16 valves). Hope that helps . . .

so, is the fact that a 93 180 has an SR the only reason y it would cost more then an 89 180?

I know about the engines...but is the difference between them big enuff for 3700??????????
