This is such an amazing idea! f***ing idiots. Who wants to cede from the US. http://sports.espn.go.com/outdoors/salt ... id=4975762

"The Obama administration will accept no more public input for a federal strategy that could prohibit U.S. citizens from fishing the nation's oceans, coastal areas, Great Lakes, and even inland waters."

PS, this is a political debate.

Maybe I should say "we" voted for him. I didn't vote for him either (I was 17 at the time). At any rate the majority of people voted for him including many on this forum.

No personal attack on anyone. Just a general statement.

Its not just the fishing industry, what about the towns that thrive because of the traffic created by fishing tourists? This is simple a ridiculous idea. Also I can see how they could start putting other things into effect, like banning certain types of hooks/bait, only can use certain rods etc. Make it harder to do legally until people just don't care anymore.

This seems like it would anger such a HUGE group of people while achieving such dubious gains that I'm not sure I buy it.

Firstly, at least in MD, almost all inland fishing is in man-made (i.e. a dam) STOCKED lakes, and I cannot imagine they would ever have a reason to prohibit fishing in stocked lakes.

There *have* to be other details here that are getting left out. It must target specific species, or areas, or something. Admittedly, I didn't read the thing line for line.

Yea I get that, the big picture has a lot of negative consequences and that is why I do not think anything will come of it.

It's like banning cigarettes....Way to many people make big money by making cigarettes so they won't go any where no matter how destructive they are.

"O DE NOEZ. SAEV THA FISHES!!!!!1!!!1one!eleventyone!"

If this fishing ban goes into effect, I'm going to go to one of the local ponds, catch the biggest fish I can get, and personally shove it up Obama's butt.

First, they came for the anglers, but I did not speak up, for I am not an angler...Then, they came for the hunters, but I did not speak up, for I am not an angler...Then, they came for the cars, but there was noone left to hear me.

Welcome to the future, it's a slippery slope, comrades.

Because they haven't STARTED banning cigarettes?

They will never just up and ban anything all together right off the bat. It would anger too many people, and the government is smarter than that. They know that they have to start chipping away at these things little by little, so that it goes under the radar. And then, eventually, you wake up with no more cigarettes, fishies, guns, and a bill to pay for them taking all this away from you.

Welcome to the future.

So you think they are trying to illegalize cigarettes?

If some thing happens to fishing then the backlash will be large enough for law makers to change things. Also if you want to prevent this from ever getting off the floor, then complaining on a forum isn't the best way of going about things.

If this passes I'm moving to good ol Canada. I really don't see the purpose of this at all, why wouldn't they just put up stricter limits?

Yea good point, I don't smoke so I totally forgot about the newer smoking laws passed. ADDirishboy, it sure looks like that is where they are heading with cigarettes...

Smoking in public is a iffy law. I do agree with closed buildings (that do not have a non smoking and smoking sections). But your own car, that is BS. They won't go away completely though...

They should march on Washington and have a "fish-in" on the reflecting pool.
