The L320 side trim comes in narrow and wide versions.
The narrow trim was on the 62 and 63 trucks. The wide trim was generally on the late 65 trucks.
Not sure about 64 and early 65 trucks. Have seen both wide and narrow in pictures
Those of you with 64 and 65 trucks can help resolve this. What trim do you have?
Any info on specifically when the change was made from narrow to wide trim?
NL320 trim is different than the L320 trim.

Ted.

My experience has been that there are 4, but maybe as many as 6 trim profiles from 63 to 65. During my research for Datsun320.com, according to a couple of the guys who were around when the trucks were new, and a source who actually was involved in the late 320 production and early 520s, there were several suppliers for the trim, and the trucks received a hodge-podge of trim profiles. If a certain supplier ran out, another profile was used. This seemed to be most prevalent on the 64 models, as plenty of narrow trim was made for the 63, and by 65, production issues had been resolved (plus, there were fewer built because of leftover 64s).

Disclaimer: I could be way off on this, so I'm always open to further education.

I had a hell of a time finding a matching replacement RF fender trim piece for my 320. Looking at several early pics of it, from the second owner, it had a slightly different profile (narrow, but different) on the RF fender from the rest of the truck - but no evidence of body damage or a replacement fender. This leads me to believe that even the factory got it "wrong" sometimes.

Boy, they really monkeyed around with the minor changes on these trucks from year to year, didn't they? I can measure the trim on my 64 and post the width.

My truck is a 64. Pie-shaped turn signal lenses, 4 in the VIN number, etc. It is a column shift and the valve cover is attached by six screws. I just put a caliper on the side molding and it is just about 23 mm wide. It has a rounded profile with a flat spot in the middle of the profile.

Here's my 63 - the trim on the door matches the rest of the truck, but the trim on the fender was incorrect.

Bringing over some info from the original email traffic -

Here is a pic of the 3 types of trim pieces -

Image Pic from W. L.

At this time we are tracking that the first wide, what I call the 3 ridge trim, is on late '65s with floor shift, at least as of now.

The middle trim is, at this time, only found on the NL. Which would make since production wise as it is different as not to confuse it with the PL trim as neither are enter-changeable (ok, the fenders are as Greg has pointed out on his NL).

The last trim on the far right is the original narrow trim found on 62 through '65. Yes, we recieved an email from Mr. M. that he has a late '65 with floor shift with the narrow trim.

My fleet is all narrow trim for '62- '64 for column shift (my one '65 is a serial number '64) and my 2 x '65 floor shifts are of the wider 3 ridge trim.

According to [email protected]:

"Narrow trim ‘65 here. There was no indication it had ever been removed until I did."
