what offsets are they? and what type of work are you prepared to do?

And imho, if you're gonna be upping the size to a 17 or 18, it'd a waste not to at least go with a 9" width

Trust me, I'm not rich either.

I rolled my cousin's fenders with a hammer, lol.

If your going with 17x7.5 I'd probably go with like a 215/45/17. But I really suggest you go with a 17x9 if thats offered.

17x8.5 w/ a 235/40/17 would be a really good setup for a 240SX. That tire size is offered with alot of different companies. I'd suggest Falken Azenis RT615's if you want good grip, or going with a Kumho MX if you want slightly less grip and less cost.

If you are going to run a staggered fitment on 7.5/8.5 the I would run 235 on back and 215 up front. The sidewall depends on what size wheel you go with. There is a formula for working sidewalls that I can explain if you would like. The main thing is decide what size wheel you want. You also have to think whether you want the stretched tire look, or normal tire look. If you want the stretched look, a 205 on the front might look more stretched.
