I recommend a cold pressure ("cold" means "cold" ... overnight, in a garage ideally, not even letting the sun hit it ) of 36 psi and then adjusting up or down (only a bit) to get the right wear on the tires across the tread.
For very high speed driving (like if you were on the Autobahn in Europe), then you have to bump it up between 3 to 7 psi higher than usual ... for that trip. This is to avoid too much sidewall flex at high speeds (can damage tires and lead to premature failure ... ala Ford/Firestone where the pressure could get too low - even for US highway speeds - if the owners were careless).
BTW, a tire that reaches 41 psi during normal driving is not a problem. As long as the cold inflation pressure does not exceed the maximum marked on the sidewall (usually 51 psi, or 44 psi on older tires), then you are perfectly fine!
