so has anyone ever used or heard of using propane instead of NOS... which is better? i know it will be cheaper to get the propane refilled(2.50 a gallon, NOS 4.00 a gallon )

different purposes entirely

Nitrous Oxide is a power adder by way of providing more oxygen to burn more fuel, in addition to lowering intake temperatures.

propane inhibits preignition, allowing you to run more boost.

and for the millionth time NOS is a trademark. it means Nitrous Oxide Systems.

call it nitrous or nitrous oxide. its NOT NOS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

*in his best ricer voice* I thought NOS was like saying O2 instead of Oxygen! What what what?

(I've had more than enouch chem to know that it's not, just a joke folks) :)

ive always wanted to try the propane-diesel thing, but ive never owned a diesel, and i doubt any of my bosses would have gotten a kick out me strapping a propane tank to one of their trucks...

Why not just use pure oxygen instead of nitrous, I'm sure that's much cheaper than nitrous.

the nitrogen should make for a colder charge if I'm not mistaken

Im guessing you saw that episode of Trucks where they hooked a 150 shot of propane or something crazy like that with a 50 shot of nitrous on a duramax deisal. That thing put down like 460 to the wheels. Crazy stuff.

i wonder what the torque was? my F450 tow truck before i ****ed it up was 275 horse, 520 ft.lbs. a 550 horse diesel truck would be awesome, but since it was a tow truck it hit redline at 90 mph in 6th gear.

You would probably blow your head right off the block if you used pure oxygen. The 2 nitrogen molecules in nitrous oxide help "cusion" the reaction when they separate from the oxygen molecule.

yup. when the nitrous breaks down from the heat of compression, it seperates into two nitrogen, one oxygen. just like air. [well, almost] if you were spraying pure oxygen, it wouldnt be a controlled burn, it would be more of a block cracking, rod breaking, explosion.

he could put ceramic tiles on the front of the car and carry the oxygen tanks on the sides like boosters!

so propane is like (keyword is like) 'increasing the octane' of the fuel you're using? can you use it in the same way alcohol/water injection is used? i mean, is there an application to work with turbos on a standard gasoline engine?

propane is a fuel, nitrous oxide is an oxidizer. so running propane is like running higher octane (much higher) and running nitrous is more like cramming more air into the cylinders (raising boost).

you need more fuel to go with more air (nitrous) and by adding more fuel (propane) you can add more boost. just depends on which way you want to go about it.

Keep in mind this was done on a diesle engine which runs of dettonation, hence no spark plugs. I wouldn't advise hooking up dads propane tank from the grill out back to your sentra or whatever. It might get messy.

I know the pure oxygene things been anwsered. Anyways yeah i started askin around about one i seen a guy with compressed air tank in his trunk with a line running to his intake piping so i gave the pure oxygene a thought and asked around, WAY to explosive, but on a positive note, the guy with the compressed air said it gave some more power but it was completly jerry-rigged and looked like crap, but this guy also made his hood scoop out of beer cans.

the propane injection works. its like running a higher octane fuel, it doesnt make more power, it gives you the ability to run higher boost without detonation, which creates the extra power.

if his car had a MAF sensor, the reason he was making power is because the air he was injecting was not being metered by the maf, and creating a lean fuel-air mix. surprised he didnt blow the car up. really stupid.

do NOT use pure oxygen. Depending on the size of the tank, both you and everyone around you will die if it explodes. When some idiot rearends you, its game over for everyone.

Too many other things to go wrong with it too. waaaaay too dangerous.
