i bet hatches without a sunroof have it and i bet coupes with sunroofs don't. where did you get that pic? and can you show use the one from the hatch that makes you think it doesn't have it?

the reason the coupe is more stiff is because there isn't a huge hole in the back of the car.

If you look at the rear header (#5) for the fastback, it seems a little thicker. I don't disagree that the coupe is stiffer, but a few suspension mods will stiffen the fastback right up.

isn't the coupe supposed to be stiffer because of the large metal piece that sits behind the rear seats that's pretty much missing on the fastbacks?

I've owned both and swear the hatch is still stiffer, just seat of the pants driving.

suspension has a lot to do to. If all your bushings are in order (specially subframe) then it should feel great compared to a crappy one.

hatches are naturally less stiff than a coupe due to the missing structural crossbrace behind the rear seat. If you look at any convertible, that cross brace is the main focal point of chassis rigidity. You can add a rear STB to a hatch, but it still won't be as effective as the rear seat cross brace.

Exactly. My old AE86 coupe hardtop (no sunroof) was by far stiffer and lighter than the hatches in our club. Now I'm on the search for an S13 coupe base model (no sunroof).

I figured they'd be the same. I know the hb weighs more but I never knew anything about either car being stiffer. Interesting....cool pic btw. So is my coupe not stiff? I have a sunroof......

My coupe has power package but no sun/moonroof.

I wouldn't mind having one though.

this is where the coupe gains its rigidity over the hatch. The hatch just has an open hole where this is in the coupe.
