WOW. This is going to be a lot harder than I thought. But I have learned a lot.gr8scott72 wrote:
You don't want to deal with a car that has that kind of rust on it. Even if you got all the surface rust off and made it look nice again, what about all the nuts and bolts that have rust on them? (And trust me, they will ALL have rust on them.) When you go to repair something, those bolts (and other parts) start breaking and small repairs become BIG repairs.
I think what I'll do is stick it out & find one for sale here in the South (AL, MS, FL). That is, if I can find one that isn't overpriced & flooded by these hurricanes.
Just to clarify, I'll tell you guys what I really want from a J, both in purchase & in project.
1) I want the J to be great condition. Minor repair needs are okay; but I prefer one that will be well maintained & allows me to do my custom bolt-ons.2) I want the J to be a head turner. I'm not talking about large 24" rims or any of that other ghetto crap; nor am I talking about fart cans in the back or oversized spoilers like the ricer crowd. Just something nice to show off a bit.3) Speed is important to me, but I don't expect the J to be a dragster or anything. My Civic runs an average of 10.51 down the 1/8 mile stock (I haven't tested it on a 1/4 mile yet). The fastest time I've seen a J run @ my home drag strip is a 10.73 (that's the riced one I beat). I want to make my J run @ least 10.40s & still be reliable for luxury use or as a backup for when & if I do blow up my i-VTEC.
I know about the JWT products, as well as Stillen. I trust both, but I don't know which brand will give me the most for my $$$. Even though I'm a computer tech, I'm still blue-collar, so I'm trying not to overspend even worse than what I've already done.
You guys rock!!!
