The VH45DE is a fantastic engine in my Q45 and I'm guessing it's an absolute beast in a chassis that is over a 1000 lbs. lighter.

I'd be interested in some more info on your dyno results. Can you post the graphs? Before and after the S-AFC/timing? Have you modified the ECU at all or just added the S-AFC?

Did you ever find and fix the misfire you were experiencing?
I would post the dyno graphs, but they're pretty useless, with a 5500RPM stall in the converter you get some odd graphs. Just take it that the AFR at the muffler is 13.1:1 across the board.

Since the car is on 103 octane unleaded, I upped the base timing by 10 degrees, which is where all the power was made. Honestly, I would have added more but the CAS couldn't rotate any further. The SAFC is pulling out a little bit of fuel, but not much. The ECU is 100% stock and the fuel cut issue is still there. The car is just quick enough now that it happens just after the traps rather than just before.

Well, good info. What was the peak HP and Torque output at the wheels? There are those on the Q45 board that would have you believe that you've some how lost power by not using the original intake for the VH engine. I think that is absolutely ridiculous.

I would just be interesting to see what a full exhaust system and cold air intake does for this engine on the dyno. Gaining an additional 20hp, from adding timing to a mostly stock NA engine, is something to be about too.

I am 100% certain that the timing is hurting at low engine speeds, but for my application, I don't care. I don't think the intake and exhaust are hurting at all.

You can't even look at the torque numbers on a car with a high stall converter like mine, the data is useless.

I just had to watch the videos on Youtube again and listen to the exhaust. I'm jealous that mine doesn't sound like that.

Gidday

Firstly, nice car and it sounds damn good, also decent times too.

Im from New Zealand planning on putting a Vh41 into an s14 silvia (so itl be right hand drive instead) and i was wondering if you had any specifications of the engine mounts you made as they are something i was wondering about?

Also did you have to modify the front crossmember?

Thanks heaps, David

Hello,

Unfortunately I don't have any specifications for the mounts, as they were made as a "1-off" set. I know that my mounts place the engine further back in the engine bay than the Mazworx mounts.

I did not modify the front crossmember at all.

I have 1/4" of clearance between my passenger side head and the firewall. I don't know how things look with an S13 though. I just know looking at the pictures in gs14racers thread that his motor appears to be closer to the radiator support than mine.
