So did you get that ECU yet?? I'm curious to see the gains with the i/c/e/h

;0

Great project! 200whp is super close! I think with proper AFR and some agressive timing you could hit it for sure!

I have not, though that's probably going to happen in about a week or so. I have dyno time scheduled the first weekend in March, so I better get on it, huh?

I'm pretty sure that I'll pick up about 10whp with just the ECU, but we shall see for sure here in a few short weeks.

I promise more as the year progresses. Like I said, March will be a pretty good update month guys, stay tuned.

Great news is, my TT is almost running at 100% again. I drove her the last nice day we had, just up and down I-35... and it was a flipping blast. I had forgotten exactly what that much power felt like, it's been too long. I'm throwing a couple CELs that I need to address, but they aren't anything major. I'm hoping she'll be back on the road this spring full tilt.

what was the problem with the TT?

I know what you mean -- I drove mine out to the place where I store it for the winter and I had some serious anticipation for summer.

The PCV fitting on the drivers side cracked and had to be replaced and I got the new exhaust that my lady bought me for Xmas put on it. I'm hoping the only thing I need to do now is replace the driver side O2 and I'll be good.

Finally time for a Slicktop update! It's been forever, I know, but work sort of took a back seat over the winter time and now that Autocross season has started again, I'm back on track and starting to remember that there is a Slicktop in the garage.

First, an update on the car/driver. It was a great driving season last year. Since our updates I picked up some cool gear because the car did so well in the 2007 Autocross season.

E-Street Prepared - 1st Place - Crown Autocross Club.

E-Street Prepared - 1st Place - Kansas City Region SCCA

I also won 1st in the Kansas City Champs, also in E-Street Prepared. I don't have a picture of the shirt that was the "trophy" so here's a picture of my dog with the Kansas City Region Trophy.

So, I was pretty pleased with it's Autocross performance. She did well and held together for the season. We're taking a little bit different approach with it this year and are going to run Street Tires instead of R-Comps. I'm wearing out my 710's from last year and after that we'll be trying the new setup.

I'm honestly getting pretty tired wasting a grand every year on R-compound rubber and moreso, changing tires for ~4 minutes of track time seems like a waste of time. Hopefully this season will be filled of holding my own on street rubber. I haven't yet decided what tire I am going to use, but something in a 200 or less treadwear seems fitting. Then I can use the same stuff for track days, etc. I feel like it's a good compromise.

Here are a couple pictures from the first two events here in Kansas City so far this year.

PT's new S2000 on the right.

R-Comps + Rain + Sleet + Sub 30 degree temps = Dorifto.

Now, on to what's been going on with the "project" portion. I still haven't taken pictures of the crap yet, but I assure you that the Stillen Sway bars F and R along with CZP endlinks are installed on the car. I actually broke the hell out of my camera the day I put them in and haven't had the car up on a proper lift since. Next time I do, I will be certain to take a few shots of the undercarriage so you can see them.

I took the car into the body shop earlier this week to have the holes from the antenna and rear wiper shaved and some minor body work done back there as well, fixing little dings, paint chips, etc.

Here is the hole for the rear wiper. Yes, that is duct tape.

Same hole with a plug taped from the inside.

Antenna Hole from the inside.

Antenna from the outside.

So, a little bit of progress on the car so far. It's been welded up and filled, now they are just smoothing it out. I'm sort of excited to see the end result. The rear shot, yes, that's a Diablo in the background. Passenger quarter Antenna Another rear Rear wiper

Progress! A little shot of the underside of the rear wiper weld. Top side rear wiper. The inside antenna hole weld. Antenna outside. The little wheel well kink they fixed. Driver side prepped and ready. Tape-Spec Tail lights. She gets paint in the morning! Exciting. Also, as an added bonus. How to make a 350Z look like trash.

Woo SexZ! I'm hoping for as good of a result. Your car looks great.

I've had JDM tails since right after the engine went in. They are sitting in the hatch in the pictures above.

She went in for paint this morning and has been baking all day. It should be ready for delivery on Monday. The pictures basically tell the story. I'm happy with the results so far. There is obviously just a little bit of finishing to do here, but the finished product should be just about perfect.

What antenna?

Rear wiper, buh bye.

The kink is gone.

Closer shot of the quarter

Driver quarter

With hatch

Full Rear

Yet another

From the other side.

Your Bonus Shots for the day: they finished this up this afternoon. I'm not too keen on the wheels, but it would be an interesting toy.

Lookin good

the shop you're working in has some nice toys huh

I tried my hand at body work a while back and its a very rewarding trade if you like to work with your hands. Its a real treat to have the right equipment and a nice dust-free place to spray/dry.

She's home! I am very satisfied with the work. They did a top notch job. I can't quite go wash the car yet, but as soon as I do expect some manner of photoshoot. Here are the pictures of the clean shaven Slicktop. What Antenna... we don't need no stinkin' antenna. We don't need no stinkin' wiper either. So, who can guess what my next modification is going to be?

After much discussion with various Z folks, I decided on the JWT. It's obviously more expensive, but less agressive and a little less dangerous on the levels. I'd rather run a little more on the safe side and lose out on a few horsepower.

The exhaust is Greddy SP, they are rolled tips. I like it all right, it was a hand me down from my TT which has brand new Labree now.

The place is called Pirrello Auto. Two brothers who run the show and race. All the work was actually done by them not their employees, which was nice. They dig the special projects.

I assume you meant what did all this work cost me. Clarification is needed, do you mean all the work or just the shave job?

My bad, I was just referring to the shave job.

The original quote was $1030 bucks. However, I removed all the interior panels and mouldings myself, so it knocked some off the cost. It was $879 total.

Had a nice little present at my desk when I came into work this morning. I'd imagine it's tied for fastest ECU turnaround ever thanks to Coz and JWT's awesomeness. I got the car back from the body shop Monday afternoon, drove it home, ripped the ECU out. Shipped it out that night directly to JWT, they did their magic, sent it to him and then he packed it in with my invoice and shipped it back to me. It's actually the cars original ECU, I just compared the pre send and post send pictures. The stains on the cover are exactly the same though they did clean it up a little... heh. I'm planning on plopping it in just as soon as I get home from work. I'll drive it, butt dyno the car and then wait until Sunday for our club's dyno day at MC Racing. I'll make sure to post up the new sheets and any impressions. The teaser picture, with no tease, you already know what the hell it is. Nice sealed packaging 39804 - I'm wondering if this is the flipping number of ECU's they've shipped for all the different cars they do them for. That's insane if it is. This is me, not moving to California ever. The hamburger of doom.

Nice man i cant wait to see the dynos for it, also any noticeable difference in performance while driving it. Just curious you have any plans to run it in the quarter mile?

So, installed the ECU Friday night when I got home from work and did a bunch of driving around that night. So the car runs great. It's smoother, more power in every situation and it just sounds better. I'm not sure if I can explain that, but the engine is running so much smoother throughout the powerband that it just sounds healthier.

I dynoed this morning... and I'm pretty happy with the results.

Some photos of it on the rollers.

3 Pulls - the last pull being 205 whp - 177 lb ft. - Pretty much perfect A/F imho. It was a wideband in the tail pipe, so it's going to read a little more lean than it actually is, but we're pretty much flat across the powerband. I finally broke 200whp in the Slicktop, what a wonderful thing.

Compared to my last dyno. 11.22whp and a 1.51 lb ft increase at peak. As you can see, though, an increase across the board in horsepower and torque. The power band is much improved, especially on the low end.

Now compared to stock. 36.16whp and a 19.2 lb ft increase at peak. A nice fat bap in the mid range and a big gap on the big end.

Last but not least, a little video of the final pull.Click Me

I will be running it in the 1/4 mile at both KCIR in the next month or so and of course at Branson Z Fest in May.

very nice numbers lots of power down where it matters for daily driving and peak hp 200rpm sooner.

Just out of curiosity. At what point in your mod path were the wheels changed? Are the 350Z wheels lighter or heavier than the Z32 wheels? I'm just curious if it would have made more or less power with the stock wheels...
