Couple new pictures of the old girl from last weekend. I realized after taking these and sticking them up on my flickr how few non racing pictures I have of the car. Keep in mind, I am no pro photographer guy. Be kind. :)

Today was The Kansas City Z Club's fall Dyno day and I wanted to put the Slicktop up on the rollers one more time before winter to make sure everything was going well with the car.

I'm actually pretty happy with the numbers.

WHP: 218.37
WTQ: 190.00

The below sheet has a comparison from the last time I put the car on the rollers. Gain of 6hp and 9lb ft. Nothing crazy, but of course, we'll take anything that we can get! It looks like everything has broken in nicely.

Image

Here is the comparison between this and bone stock on the same Dyno.

Image

Gain of 45.56 horsepower and 28.9 lb ft of torque, 500 more RPM in the range.

I took video as well, I'll upload to Youtube and get that posted asap.

I finally got the videos uploaded. If you didn't know how stupid loud my Slicktop was, you're going to know now.

Dyno 1 - Guy actually screwed this pass up. He let out of it because he wasn't getting a tach signal. The line on there is from the last time I put the car on the Dyno, it's 22nd pass and 7th time on the rollers.

Dyno 2 My super gay announcement of 216whp on this pull. Damone and I had agreed that whoever made more Slicktop power would buy lunch.

Dyno 3 Let the loudness continue. Finished up with 218.37 hp and 190.00 lb ft.

Finally, for your viewing pleasure. The high horsepower king of the day. Art's Twin Turbo shows us what it can do on C16.

POWWWWAAAAAA!!!

Nice runs, try setting the smoothing to 5 so the runs aren't so choppy. You're using STD correction factor, not SAE correct?

Hey Honad, I was goofing around and searched around for NA Dyno data.....I came upon this thread. It's a really interesting read, especially since I may be the only person in the country, other than you, who has built a 300ZX Z32 for E Street Prepared.

It's also funny that I started my build about the same time that you did.....however I never saw this until right now.

I keep making improvements every year, seemingly like you do.

Your car is georgous. I haven't painted mine....still original color. I have had it since 1998. I rebuilt the engine myself with help (over the phone) from Harry at Z Tuner.com....I rebuilt mine because I starved the #6 rod bearing during a solo and developed a knock (just like you hahaha)....lesson learned to always keep the engine oil above the full line if you are going to race your Z. I also relocated the PCV ports so it doesn't eat oil when I am racing it.

My car has all the legal power mods for ESP.....I dyno'd it right after the build and it made 208whp...that was on a Mustang Dyno....on 100 octane. It doesn't run on regular pump gas anymore (decked heads and super aggressive tune). I had the pistons flow coated...and the car has since been broken in....it's quicker now, but I need to get back to the dyno....straight thru aluminum exhaust (megan headers like you). Electric cooling fans, all pulleys replaced, port matched intake and exhaust (althougth I read a book later that indicated leaving a step in between the head and the header may be better to maximize torque).

Corbeau seats, driver seat is lowered to the floor.

Stereo and speakers removed.

My Z weighs 2930lbs in ESP trim (without driver) with the 295/35/17 Hoosier race tires on 17x10" 5Zigen FN01RC wheels.....aluminum calipers and the lightweight BAER front rotors. I am running out of weight savings...I am down to looking for pounds here or there. I had the rear rotors shaved to the factor throw away limit, which saved me 1.5lbs.....however I really need to take weight off the front....too bad I can't find a hollow front sway bar....I am thinking about reinstalling the stock bars since my springs are so stiff.

It's time for sticker tires in 2013, so I will downsize to the 275/35/17's to get a little gearing advantage and save weight.

Last summer I installed a custom built set custom valved Bilstien coil-overs...1200lbs/in front, 600lbs/in rear...replacing the crappy Megan racing set-up. It's made a world of difference. All the bushings are replaced, adjustable upper links front and rear (-2.5deg front, -1.5deg rear). Stillen sway bars.

I don't really know why I have built this car to the specs of ESP....it doesn't make much sense, but it was my first car out of college...and cheaper to keep making it faster than to swap to a new car and start over. If the engine ever explodes I will install a TT engine.....

Here is a you tube link to a run from Detroit Region SCCA Memorial Day Solo 2012 -> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cWzgEmhMcW4

I am editing video from the past couple years, maybe I will come back and post some updated videos...hopefully you don't think I am highjacking your thread....but it's cool to find someone who had the same crazy obsession I do!

Here is a link to a couple of good pics of my car....Aug 2012 & my fave is July 2011....
http://detroit-scca.org/e107/page.php?30

Hey, good luck with your car....if you ever need someone to talk to about how crazy it is to build the sh1t out of a non-turbo...message me on here or on the DRSCCA forums and we can chat.

My plans for next season include installing a 10" tall rear spoiler (per the rules) to tighen the car up, and later next summer I think I will get the Einke RPF01's like you have....the 17x10's will save 12lbs off the car.

Cheers, nice work and great thread with detailed updates.
Kevin.

The RPF01's are completely worth it. The difference in handling with light weight wheels is amazing!
I can't recall if ES and Stillen front sways are hallow.
I'm running the same camber setup and love it! (2+0 front sway, TT rear sway)
I am finally making the decision to TT my slicktop though! but good luck guys :P

Stock are hollow, Stillen (28mm front) and Whiteline (27mm front) are solid bars.

The 5Zigen are about 3lbs per wheel heavier than the RPF01's...so not too much heavier...it's also nice to have second set of race wheels for T&T's. I was able to notice the change with the Baer front rotors installed...and that was 5lbs per side savings.

Not a huge update by any means, but I thought I'd put something in here as it has been a while since I've done any updates.

Finally put in the Anniversary present my wife got me in February.

After, makes me really wish I would've picked up a new eBrake handle. It looks super worn out now.

Also replaced the old XS's on front of the setup with the new Dunlop ZII's. I'd say the old fronts were done, runing 2.5 degrees of negative did a number of them. This set lasted just about 5k miles or so. Rears to follow of course, but they aren't quite to the wear indicators yet. Still have at least a few events in them.
Image

The ZII's are impressive.

One last picture from Midwest Divisional Autocross this afternoon. All dressed up to do a lot of sideways during the wet racing today.

HONAD! Omg where have you been? Car is looking as good as ever! And do you bring different tires to the autox if it's raining? Seems like those tires wouldn't be the best wet weather options.

I run my street tires all the time now. I've been running in Road Tire this year so far and in previous years I ran in Street Tire classes.

So, that's finally done. Did the rears a long time ago, finally got the new brackets and the fronts put in. I'm pretty glad to have working front speakers in the car before BZF. Sounds amazing compared to the old one speaker setup for sure.

Weight is surprisingly close to the Bose crapola even with way bigger speakers. The new setup was just 1lb a side more in the front. 1lbs less in the rear, so it was a wash.

Just a couple more little things to do before I head down there.

Where did you get those larger enclosures?
I could sure use some so my door panels sit flush again and don't make noise against the dash...

Damn, checked Z1 but didn't check CZP...thanks!
I did actually replace the PO's lame attempt, but mine worked only marginally better as the top area has to be VERY thin...

Finally compiled some decent video of an Autocross event if you’re interested.

The video is super shaky because my suction cup camera mount was pretty loose as you'll see if you watch 'til the end. The speedometer seems to be off as well, maybe just a little bit of lag on the GPS side. G forces seem to be dead on, the first line is 0.5G, the outside line is 1.0G. Ignore the time in the top right, I screwed up my timer and it was starting when I left paddock not when I left the start line as it was supposed to. The track map is pretty close, once again, GPS seems to lag a bit.

I somehow managed to make the entire event without a single cone penalty, a rarity for sure.
