...and i'm very dissappointed. They tackled some cooling issues, and installed an oil cooler, but other than that, the quality of this particular installment was lacking.

My big thing is why Coleman used the power enterprise auxillary fan controller. There are many other, cheaper ways than buying a seperate brain box to make a fan turn on. For instance, I discovered that Subaru makes a temp switch that kicks the fan on when X temperature is reallized (i forget what the temp sensor is set at).

Yeah on the coolant switch. Most cars that come with e-fans use some type of water temp switch. A buddy of mine got one off an old domestic. I am thinking about it since the one I am using is a "through-the-core" type and I think it lags behind actual water temp. The kind that he got you just wire up with a relay and it ground the trigger wire then it hits 185 or something.

they even mentioned the temp senor on the 89-90 240's in one of the previous installments. That's the route I took 5 bucks at the junk yard paired with a relay I already had and it works fine.

my sensor's wired directly to the fan and battery, i think. it's been so long, i don't remember and i'd have to look to be 110% positive.

I also have the power enterprise fan controller. Yes there are other, cheaper ways of making it work but it is nice to have the adjustability that is given by the PE controller. It can read both oil and coolant temp while also providing two modes for fan operation. A manual on/off switch or temp activated. The on/off is nice for track days and the temp activation is great for daily driveability.

I have an autozone fan controler. I can set it anywhere between 32* and 212*. It was only $15.. its low tech but it works. its freaking sweet for living ina climate shift place like PA.

no need for a fan controller... just wire them to the ignition. temps are controlled by the thermostat....

only if you live in real cold weather where the engine doesn't heat up fast enough is the only time you need a temp controller.

i didn't read the article yet, but from what i hear im surprised they didn't do other tidbits. there are many cheap ways to make the car interesting...

the main reason fans are switched like that on daily driven cars is because a driver can easily forget about having to turn the fan on. I sure as hell don't want to get in my car, and then turn on a power sapping fan to a constant on state, and then possibly forget about it when I get out. Headlights drain batteries fast enough, and I have killed a few batteries with them. I don't want to think about having to deal with a fan.
