I got my P10 when I deployed to Iraq a few years back for $1500 and had a really rough start with it. I had my brother looking for something cheap that I could tweak a bit and still save on fuel. Within in the first three days of driving it I was in my first accident ever (because of a stupid b!+ch)and was certain it was gonna be totaled. I finally found a shop to fix it within in the realm of the insurance BS. After that It ran like crap and I discovered the number 2 injector was bad. I replaced it with another fuel rail and had no issues for a while. Then I had to replace my first alternator with one that was bad and then another one that finally worked.

After all the drama was said and done I started to enjoy my car quite a lot. The car held up until about three weeks after I got out of the Marines and the engine decided to get a rod knock. I decided that if I was going to do it I might as well do it big. I found a decent deal on a U13 bluebird for $1000 with ecu and wiring harness. I did the swap last August and have not stopped doing add ons since.

The start of the swap. You can see the marks on where we decided to cut the bumper and place in the front mount

The SR20DET getting a new home

You can seen where we cut and reinforced the bumper for the front mount. On the ground is all of the exhaust parts that I used.

Close up of the engine just put in the bay
Image

We did some fabricating for the intercooler piping to run
Image

We had to trim this guy down a little as well

What the engine bay looked like after it was all said and done

A low shot. You can see my ghetto mesh grille that I made out of mesh that is meant for tiling a floor.

Boost and oil pressure gauges

This is how I ran the wiring and the boost line for the gauges
Image

Then I did some body work and got the car a new coat of paint.

New antenna. The OEM one was broke loud and annoying
Image

I had some racing seats that were intended for something else but I threw them in because they matched the interior perfectly.

Then I did a dyno run for some base numbers

7 PSI

WIZIM Popformance EBC

UN Third Brake light cover

The OEM wheels looked like garbage so I got some Spec V wheels for a killer deal from someone who know a fair amount about P chassis

I threw on a temp valve cover while I was getting mine powder coated

Then I got mine powder coated from some Unknown coater

I will update this thread from time to time when things change. Lastly I have to say thanks to Little John for all of his help. Without his help the car would have never turned out the way it did.

I thought i would mention a few things you need to keep off of the DE when you put in the DET and some of the items that need to be modded when you do a swap.

keepFactory wiring harness (I used the factory wiring harness with the JDM ecu and passed emissions with flying colors. When you do this there will be two extracables on the wiring harness behind the intake that sit there. Make sure you zip tie them up!! I had one jam my throttle wide open. Learn from my mistake!!!!!)Power steering pump and reservoir (I notice the high pressure hose was different)AC compressor bracket (The US and JDM bracket is different)Flywheel (The flywheel had different sized teeth)Starter (The teeth on the starter bindex is different on a DET)Alternator (It is best to use parts that you know will work properly when doing the swap. I have replaced the alternator three times since I bought my P10.)Distributor (I have heard of a few issues when this is not changed over I mainly did it because I had a new cap and rotor without corrosion)Power steering pump (When the engines get shipped or taken out a lot of companies cut lines to get itout quicker)Coolant temp sending unit (The USDM specs and JDM specs are different)ModdedO2 sensor The wiring needs to be lengthened.Mass Air Flow wiring needs to be rewired. (I will put the difference in wiring later. My brother did this part so I can't tell you right now)Front mounted intercooler and piping. (If you do this be prepared for a big headache. You will have to cut the front bumper to make room to mount it. There are several ways to do this but I recommend what we did so you can have more ground clearance You will more than likely have to relocate the battery to the trunk for the piping as well or do a side mount. Most important of all be patient.

Feel free to add to the list if I am forgetting anything.

It runs amazing. The problem I have now is I want more power but not enough $$$ in my wallet for the big upgrades. Such as VE head, at least a T28 turbo, suspension, and better internals just for starters.

I decided to upgrade the suspension (Also WD40 is the best invention ever since duct tape and zip ties)
Image

KYB AGXs with Tien S Tech Lowering springs
Image

I picked up some Euro tails for a good deal awhile back and finally installed them. They look awesome!!!!
Image

I modified the euro fog light to act as a marker light
Image

Yes I am a LED whore
Image

Another shot of the engine bay
Image

T28 Turbo (No not a chinese brand knock off but I will not tell you the brand)
Image

Intake with Z32 MAF
Image

The latest shot of the engine bay
Image

My favorite rear shot the car

My old favorite shot of the car

New favorite shot of the car

Old POS and New Hotness

Also some extras that have been thrown on or will be thrown on.

Carbing radiator cooling plate
Image

Image

Image

Carbing rear strut tower bar
Image

Image

Image

For some reason the car looks good in the rain
Image

I started making the engine bay not stand out as much
Image

Spark plug cover
Image

Can you see the newest change?
Image

This shot turned out good by accident I had no intention of including the X but it worked out
Image

The new radiator and fans are in.
Image

Cleaning up a few parts.
Image

The bottom ends needs some new piston rings at least and probably a few other odds and ends as well. I can still drive it daily and will run it on the dyno and rebuild some time in the near future.

Almost forgot to add a pic of what it looks like with tint now
Image

Time for upgrades and get some stuff fixed. The bottom end will be rebuilt here in the next few months and I will throw on my port and polished head at that time. I am having a blowby problem and will be addressing that hopefully in the next two months with my tax return and adding some goodies on top of that. Stay tuned for further updates

The car looks great now I just need it to run perfect.

Really nice work you did on your car there. I would like to do something similar on my '99 Infiniti G20t. I was wondering on how much did you spend altogether? Is the SR20DET red top the best choice for the G20? I have read that I could increase the power of the car up to somewhere close to 400HP. I just want the G20 to run faster because I love the way they look and they have great handling and they are sturdy as well. I have some money to spend on the car. Any advise from you or anybody that about it will be well appreciate it.

I have read so much about the S13, S14and S15 that now I don't know which one is the best choice for me. I would like to do the job myself (with the help of my brother as well :chuckle: ) to save some money.

Thank you.

When i did the initial swap it cost a little over $2,000 however I had all the tools to do my own welding. I went with the U13 because it was the best bang for my buck. However, in a P11 I highly recommend getting a OBD2 SR20DET W11. It is a great platform and I have a buddy who recently got 470 HP out of his SR20VET. There is a lot of routes you can take and I will be putting out somewhere around 300 at the wheels in a couple of months.
