Its been a while but, I GOT MY CAR UP AND RUNNIN. Just thought I would let you all know. It's doing pretty well. Instead of dropping the tank I decided to just push the gas threw. Never let it under a 1/4 of a tank. Buy the way, I got a Chilton manual and couldn't find anything that helped me with the fuel pump switch or what ever but, I didn't need to reset it anyway. Its my fault I didn't go back to basics. Changed the fuse, put the pump in and fired her up. Damn I'm an idiot some times. Well, I still haven't takin pics yet due to work and cold weather. I will soon.. maybe. Some one motivate me.

Let me explain about the whole fuse situation. The negative wire on the fuel pump had basicly eroaded away and I'm lucky that the car hadn't caught fire. I replaced the wire and installed a new fuel pump. 2 or 3 days later is when I found the fuse looking over the problem. I don't know why my dumb *** didn't check it. Well anyways, the motor is making a terrible knocking or hitting sound which I first thought to be my lifters. I figured out the problem there though. The timing chain is junk and needs to be replaced badly. It's so cold and I'm so lazy, not to mention no where to really work on out of the weather, that I'm prolly going to take it to a dearlership and get it replaced. 80 bucks for a new chain and a rip off deal of like 250 to 300 dollars to fix it, Just because its such a ***** to do. Damn my life.

It's the chain. The previous owner (who I also work with) told me it was junk. I looked through my chilton on how to do it and it just looks like to much of a ***** for me to do and do in a short amount of time because this is my dd. Any words of advice wc or Idaho?

Start by removing the 2 problematic timing chain guides which are known to cause a ticking/ clacking noise from the front cover/valve cover area . There is an awesome guide on how to do it. Once you've removed both (which doesn't take long) you should be good to go.

Do you have a write up on this, or know where I might find it? I don't think its in my chilton but I will look when I go back home.

Edit: BTW, Pics will be up by Wensday.

No chain guides can be removed on the single slammer. There are only two, one on each side of the chain. The first time I did a timing chain on the single slammer, it took me almost two months. Partly because I couldn't find time to work on it, and partly because when I did work on it I took my time so as to not screw anything up. The second time I did the chain job it only took me four hours. My advice is to just read over the book a couple times and even go out and look in the bay to see where everything is. It's really not that complicated to do.

Pretty much. If it's making noises the tensioner is probably bad, thus making the chain loose, which in turn is slapping around inside the cover. Probably would be best to replace before you jump timing and tag some valves with the top of your pistons. I've done that, it's no fun.

Would I have to replace the tensioner too?

Yes, the tensioner is the basically the most important part. If you buy a timing chain kit the tensioner will most likely come with it.

a good way to save money is not going to the bar, i usually spend 120-140$ at the bar every weekend so if i stay at home like a loner i've saved at least 480$ by doing nothing!
