They got my car in early, so I picked it up today. 2011 Red Alert hatchback with charcoal interior. S model with aluminum kickplates and cargo organizer. Has the Power Pkg also. Nothing too amazing there. It is the same body style as we all have. The 2013 hatch should be the new style shown as the Tiida we've seen around the 'net. I was happy to find that my radio has an aux input too.
They offered me $11,000 for the car as it sat, which included the JDM headlights. i had spent out of pocket ~$3,000 for add-on parts and still owed $8,700. So they gave me $2,300 for the parts I had on there after I had them on for a year. I had 10,000 miles on the tires already, the clear coat on the wheels were cracking, one tire tended to leak in the winter because one wheel was slightly out of round, and a couple other complaints I had with the car. I still feel like I should have pulled for more cash, but I kept my cargo net and front tow hook from the deal. I could have parted it out, maybe made the same amount of cash back from the parts, spent a month haggling with boxing parts up and shipping them, etc. I honestly went in there just to "check numbers" on a new one for fun and they finally offered me $11k before I went to lunch to think it over.
So in the end, I got the car for ~$13,900 out the door. $11k trade-in, $500 NMAC cash for Easter weekend promotion, VPP pricing (employee special), and 0% interest. I'm paying $228 a month for 5 years and no rush to pay it off. Yeah it's not Project: MEEP. But, I could always build another one if I wanted to. I already have in mind what I would do differently a second time around. I have a 240sx that I'm planning to build from the ground up, so I still have something to tinker with when I feel the need. I know everyone loved the headlights, and I did too, but they were 1 of 2 sets in the US, almost irreplaceable because of that, and the bulbs were $300 a set. I had to constantly be worried about the damn car because it was one of a kind and half the parts were not easily replaceable if something happened. The dealer wanted to tote it up as a NISMO edition, and make it a big deal. Good for them. I doubt I would have been able to sell it as a whole otherwise. I doubt a bank was going to finance anyone.
As my wife told me, "Think of it like Michaelangelo smashing a statue if he couldn't keep it. Your car will live on in infamy on Youtube and maybe we'll see it around town with a happy new owner." I hope someone enjoys the heck out of it like I did. I just don't know what I'll be taking to Import Alliance in July now. :-(
