My goal with my current 240sx is 350hp, via KAT.

Coming into this type of project I have NO experince tuning. None whatsoever. I am of reasonable intelligence, I have patience, I know when to lurk on the forums, and when to ask questions. I also have another daily driver to get me to work and back. I've got tools I either own or can rent, and a garage to work in.

Taking all that into perspective: What would you guys suggest I do when it comes to building my engine-- Should I make my first turbo project goals small? Or is it feasible that I buy all the parts I need to make my goal of 350rwhp, and shoot for the moon.

I would rather buy parts to make 350rwhp once, instead of doing what many other people seem to do which is slowly build up a monster car, selling parts as they become less than usefull. (upgrading injectors, turbo, SMIC to FMIC...piping.. etc etc)

What do you guys think? Is it possible to jump right into the deep end of the pool or should I play in the shallow end and try to learn to swim where my feet can still touch the ground?

Start small and work your way up. Let you car get faster as you start to gain more experience.

start with basic power adders and things, exhaust and such that wont impede your turbo buildup later. thats what Im doing, and I made the mistakes of redoing things over and over on my 300zx. I would get your exhaust taken care of, suspenion, LSD, etc all done, or just buy parts slowly and surely and save them until your both metnally, and financially ready to put it all together.

also, search, and read everything you can.-chet

You'll have to run 14-16psi, (ofcourse you don't have to follow this route, and I may have missed something), but you could go with:

Pre-Turbo Stuff:-----------------------1.) After-Dark Tuning Turbo Prepped KA Block (Rods / Pistons / Bearings / crank / etc)2.) Custom 3" exhaust (w/flexible downpipe, High flow Cat, and APEXi N1 can)3.) Upgraded Clutch4.) With that much HP I would go with a 3.917 or 3.700 vLSD rear-end, so that your still streetable....

Fuel MGMT:-----------------------5.) JWT ECU (tuned for turbo and z32 MAF)6.) HKS Super-AFR (makeup for where JWT ECU lacks)7.) JWT Fuel Rail8.) 440cc injectors9.) z32 Fuel Filter & MAF Sensor

Turbo:-----------------------10.) Electronic Boost Controller11.) NSport STAGE I Turbokit w/FMIC - running 14-16psi

You won't be able to get this kind'a HP out of a KA-T without proper tuning. You atleast want to learn about air-2-fuel ratios, compression ratios, and predetonation before you jump in deep end...

In any event, you're talking 'LOADS' of money....I would settle for an easy to reach 220hp for now. Which some people have attained for less than 1500$....

yeh its going to be hard to find someone who is willing to help out IRL tuning a setup like that but I've got quite a bit of time. Plenty of people online are willing to help though. =) The internet is guh, so good.
