Post

Its been a while since I posted anything about the car.

I've been working on cleaning up the body, and getting the drivetrain back in shape. Doing the brake conversion 4 pots in the front, and maxima rears (still gotta order the brackets )

Heres some pictures of what I did recently:

Started out cleaning up the minor rust, sanding the car, and shooting it with temporary primer to keep it from re-rusting

Cleaned out the engine compartment about 2 weeks ago...Before:

After:

Finally got the car up on jackstands, and found this little spot of rust I didnt notice before. I started pokin at it, and it was pretty nasty. Should be fairly simple to fix tho.

I also need to get the hatch patched...

Its really not all that much rust for a car thats been sitting for more than 10 years.

Yesterday I disassembled the brakes in the front and part of the rear (didnt have a socket large enough to get the rear axle stub thingys out).

I recently acquired some S12+8's and maxima rear calipers from a nearby junkyard, so i decided to test fit the fronts...

Unfortunately my S12+8's are for ventilated rotors (even tho they're not S12+8W's) so the fit isn't quite right. Looks like I could get it to work with the stock rotors if I use a slight spacer to set the caliper off towards the engine a bit... We'll see. Ill prolly just order the vented rotors and get the rotor spacers :P

Nice to know that my wheels clear the brakes just fine! I might run a spacer to give myself a little more space out from the struts tho...

The plan is to finish the brake upgrades, and get the car running on the L28 for now, since I need to sell my Subaru (insurance + car payments = no moneys ). I picked up some stuff yesterday: Front wheel bearings, spark plugs/wires/rotor (the cap is on order), I ordered the caliper rebuild kits for both sets of calipers, as well as replacement pins and stuff... I'm gonna order some rotors this week, and hopefully if I have enough extra cash, get the rotor spacers for the front, and the brackets for the rear. Might have to wait until next paycheck tho, lol. Also need to pick up a fuel pump, and fuel filter.

On that note, whats the easiest way to clear the fuel and brake lines? Air hose? The thing's been sitting forever, and I may have to replace the brake master cyl (looked like the brake fluid dried in it, and hardened).

I think you got the right calipers you just need a spacer to align with the rotor

and for clearing the lines, yeah just open them up and shoot some air through them, I too felt a bit odd about allowing any of the 30 year old brake fluid mix with the newer stuff and still bled till they ran clear, also I highly recomend the braided steel brake lines and cltch line, the old ones tend to be rotted and steel is cheaper than OE replacements

I was gonna do steel braided brake lines eventually, just because (have em on my suby, huge difference in pedal feel). Didnt think about the clutch lines, but thats prolly a good idea.

Odds are i might have to replace the brake master, and clutch master and slave.

Oh yea, and in recent weeks Ive stripped pretty much the whole interior. :D

Im thinking of either leaving it bare, and possibly painting it...

Or having it Line-x'ed :P

Picked up a battery and did the spark plugs/wires today. Was gonna pull the rear stub axles, but didnt have a long metal pipe to use as a breaker bar...

I also pulled a retard move and somehow got the polarity of the battery backwards... fried the relay wire. (it amazes me how simple the relays are, i could make one of these relay wires, and i SUCK at soldering. )
